Small Business of the Day: Conversations with Adrienne Horn of I A.M. Editing, Ink

Today’s Small Business of the Day features an interview with Adrienne Horn. Please find our conversation below.

We’re thrilled to have the chance to ask you some fun questions today, but before we get started, can you introduce I A.M. Editing, Ink to our readers.
I A.M. Editing, Ink has three main focuses:

1) We transform resumes, CVs, and cover letters into job opportunities that advance careers.
2) We help doctoral candidates perfect their dissertations, progressing them to the final step of successfully presenting their defense.
3)We provide self-publishing services to new and aspiring authors to help them become top-selling published authors.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned building your business that you can share with those just starting out in their entrepreneurial journey?
When I began my business, I was responsible for about 90% of the operations of my business, which equates to being a one-woman show. I found much success as a first-time entrepreneur. However, I was burning myself out, and I had not even truly gotten started.

In my personal life, I had been accustomed to doing everything on my own. And you know how the saying goes. If you want it done right, do it yourself. I believed that wholeheartedly. However, I found out rather quickly that succeeding required soliciting help. Hence, my next roadblock – finding people who were dependable and skilled in their crafts.

As I’ve grown, I have learned how to properly select team members, and I am very proud to say that each one of them has contributed to my success. Being a full-time pharmacist, a full-time editor, and a full-time mother can be challenging at times, but working in these roles has taught me the importance of time management and how to prioritize things, such as my family and self-care.

Alright, before we go, let’s do a quick lightning round.
