Today, we’d like to introduce you to Elanese Lansen.
Hi Elanese, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story began as a little girl when I realized I had an insatiable desire to be on stage and perform for people.
I’ve loved to sing for as long as I can remember. I grew up listening to artists like Aaliyah, Alicia Keys, Destiny’s Child, and Christina Aguilera – and they had a huge impact on me and my development as a recording artist and performer.
As I got older I started writing songs of my own, and I was heavily influenced by the music I loved from the 90s and 2000s. Fast forward- the love I have for performing and making music still drives me every day. And I’m so grateful to be doing what I love to do.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think life is always going to be a series of wins and losses. There have been plenty of obstacles, but overall, I believe that struggle provides an opportunity for personal development.
I think a challenging aspect of this journey has been really getting to know myself musically, understanding who I am and what I want to sound like, and developing my sound as an artist. Through the years, when you’re in creative mode, you try on different hats to see what fits. I tend to find inspiration depending on what I’m going through at that moment, and listening back to things I’ve worked on, I can hear the growth and reflect on different phases I’ve been in throughout my life.
I’ve finally gotten to the point where I know what I want to sound like, and I know myself. I can be myself unapologetically – in and out of the studio.
How do you think about luck?
I really believe in the power of manifestation and creating your own luck. To really make things happen, you have to be at least a little delusional. You really have to believe in the outcome, even if you don’t necessarily know the exact steps to take to get there.
That’s not being said to diminish the importance of hard work – but I’ve had a lot of things happen to me that can’t be explained. I think what you put out into the universe, you get back. If you believe something amazing can happen, it can.
There have been times I feel that I’ve created my own luck. I encourage people to know that anything is possible if you believe it wholeheartedly and allow positive things to flow into your life.
