Today, we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Farrell.
Hi Kristen, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Although I am based in Bridgehampton, NY, I have been traveling to Florida to balance out the winters since 2000. We started by vacationing in a 3-bedroom townhome on the water in the hamlet of Hypoluxo and then moved on to build 10 houses, two personal and the rest spec, over the course of 10 years.
From 2015 to 2019, we built five houses on the island of Manalapan, and in 2018, we completed two ocean-to-intra-coastal houses on Ocean Blvd. I am especially proud of these homes, which integrated our Hamptons architectural and design philosophy of open floor plans, large windows, and a light color palette into what was a dated home design culture.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Building is never a smooth road. Drawings designed by the best of the best require field interpretation and problem-solving, and this is the space I love.
It’s a combination of creative thinking and working with contractors to find functional solutions that meet the design aesthetic. Contractors are an essential part of the process, and I rely on their experience in the field.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We have recently rebranded to bring all our expertise under one title, Kristen Farrell & Co. We specialize in designing and building exceptional homes in The Hamptons, Montana, and Florida.
What sets us apart is our focus on functional family living and inviting the outdoors in. Our work recognizes that the home is the entry to the lifestyle that these exceptional areas offer, and experience is what matters most.
We offer access to our brand partnerships and strategic alliances with companies such as Sherwin Williams, Nemo Tile, Sub Zero Wolf, Williams Sonoma, and Technogym, as well interior design services through our network of designers and finally… access to our intentionally built spec homes.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
“Luck is the residue of design” is one of my favorite phrases.
I have built our business on intention and the view that everyone rises together. It takes a team to design and build and everyone succeeds when working together toward a unified goal. Aligned alliances = huge successes!
