Today we’d like to introduce you to Bonnie Walker.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My interest in the entertainment industry, communications, and the business of connecting people began early on in my youth. My Father had managed a few recording artists and a notable Reggae star.
His reverence for music led him to ensure that I was classically trained in the art form. By the age of 12, I had mastered music theory and 6 string instruments.
His sister, my aunt had founded a charity that served the underprivileged youth in Miami-Dade County, and many of the non-profits contributors were sports stars, music stars, and even political titans. I’d always been super involved with volunteering via my aunt’s charity, YCHS Kids. By the time I had ventured off to university, I had litigation in mind.
However, during my time at the University of Central Florida, I met and bonded with many Full Sail University students who reignited my passion for music. Having come into camaraderie with producers like Ronny J, Derek Milano, and others, I began assisting some of my friends with their projects. I left university with a degree in Communications and a fire in my belly,
Fast forward to my first year, post-graduation I interned with the RnBae Collective. Under the tutelage of Cristina Jerome and DelRo, I mastered my craft in events curation, events production, digital marketing, and market research.
This led me down the path of curating events and activations with reputable Records Companies like Universal Capitol, Sony Records, and Atlantic Records. Platforms such as iHeart Radio, Audiomack, and Soundcloud, and brands like Diageo, Deep Eddy Vodka, and Coca-Cola.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I will say that my journey hasn’t always been smooth, but it has been “worth it.” I’ve connected with colleagues whose knowledge and experience is incomparable.
I’ve traveled and experienced lots of things that many people can only dream of. All in all, I am grateful for the struggles and the successes.
As you know, we’re big fans of Badass Media LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Badass Media was founded in 2021.
Since then we’ve had a hand in curating and producing events and conferences, for both small businesses and industry titans. One of our first successes was the curation of the ice cream collaboration for Twelve’len’s debut album “Sugar Hill Express” with Miami-based business Mr. Kream. Another production was “Black Future Weekend,” a 3-day conference for Van Jones’s non-profit.
We specialize in Digital and Influencer Marketing, Brand Growth, Partnership & Sponsorship Outreach, and Experiential Events.
Do you have any advice for those just startint?
I advise all entrepreneurs to network, know their worth, and do the work.
Nothing worth having comes easy. There will be many days when you’re unsure if the path you’ve chosen is destined. However, you’d have to keep going to know.
