Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandra Lopez.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Alejandra Lopez, and I hail from Bogota, Colombia. I moved to Miami 12 years ago and enrolled in a fashion school, where I studied fashion accessories and merchandising. Subsequently, I pursued a course in UX UI Design and learned how to design websites and mobile applications. While working in this field, I realized my dream of owning a boat.
Unfortunately, I lost my 9-5 job, and my boat rental business became my sole source of income. Although it has been a challenging transition, I’ve embraced a more entrepreneurial mindset. With the unwavering support of my family and friends, I’m striving to build a reputable boat rental business that satisfies my clients’ needs.
I started from scratch, acquiring a boating certificate, and learning how to leverage social media platforms to promote my business, including reels, TikTok, videos, ads, and promos.
Being a small business owner is both challenging and rewarding, with countless opportunities to learn from ups and downs. My ultimate goal is to offer clients an unforgettable experience, creating countless memories amidst the natural beauty of water and nature.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Managing a business single-handedly is not a walk in the park. When you run a business, people will notice, and reactions can range from happiness to jealousy. It’s essential to acknowledge that you can’t please everyone, and accepting that early on can make the journey smoother.
Running a boat rental business involves a lot of learning, including regulations, fees, marina protocols, and customer expectations. One of our biggest challenges is finding parking space for customers and ensuring compliance with marina regulations since we don’t own a dock.
Furthermore, with a plethora of boat rental options available, we strive to differentiate ourselves by delivering unique experiences and effectively marketing our services. It’s a constant learning process, but we remain motivated to enhance our customers’ experience and offer something different from the rest.
As you know, we’re big fans of Andiamo Miami. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We’re a boat rental company offering a 25-foot boat that can comfortably accommodate up to 10 people. Our main goal is to offer our passengers an unforgettable experience by taking them on trips to different sandbars, small islands, downtown Miami, Key Biscayne, North Miami, and Fort Lauderdale. What sets us apart is that we customize the route based on our passengers’ preferences.
We want our passengers to enjoy their time on the boat and visit the places they desire, rather than having a predetermined destination. Whether they want to party on a sandbar or enjoy cruising around Miami-Fort Lauderdale, we’re open to tailoring the trip to their liking.
At our boat rental company, we put the power in our passengers’ hands, allowing them to make decisions on where to go and what to see. Our mission is to provide them with a personalized and unforgettable experience that will make them want to come back for more.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out.
My biggest advice to anyone starting a business is to never stop learning. Stay on top of your industry by taking classes, watching tutorials, attending seminars and events, and networking with new people. Some days can be demotivating, but it’s crucial to keep in mind the bigger picture and your ‘why’ for starting the business. Remember your sense of purpose and push yourself to create new content, ask for help, or learn a new skill.
Starting a new business is a challenging journey that requires patience, perseverance, and the ability to step out of your comfort zone. There will be supporters and critics, and the lack of fear and self-confidence can be daunting. But the rewards are worth it, especially when compared to the daily grind of an 8-5 job. You have the freedom to create something of your own, and that’s priceless.
The process of building a successful business takes time and effort, and there will be times when you feel rejected or afraid. But keep pushing forward and remember that the lessons you learn along the way will help you grow and become a better entrepreneur.
