Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin P. Slaughter.
Hi Justin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Born and raised in Port Arthur, TX. I moved to California for a short period and went to the Art Institute of San Francisco for Recording Arts and Film where my passion grew. I’m also a certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, owner of JSlaughterFITNESS, and former bodybuilder in the INBA, NGA, and NPC Federations where I later started doing Fitness Modeling. I’ve used my fitness lifestyle as an attribute in the film industry.
In 2017 during post-Hurricane Harvey, I started booking acting jobs in the Atlanta market. I’ve done a lot of networking to not only perfect my craft but to understand the business side of the craft. In 2018 I’ve booked a Supporting Role in the Feature Film “90 Feet From Home” starring WWE Hall Of Fame wrestling legend Shawn Michaels which is available on Amazon Prime Video.
I then went on to book several roles out of different markets in the US. Joining the cast of an Amazon Prime Video Sci-Fi Feature Film “Meteor” as Apollo. The film was shot in North Texas. Immediately after wrapping “Meteor” I landed my Lead Role as Adam Huxley in a Sci-Fi film entitled “Egress” that’s also available on Amazon Prime Video which is also green-lit to go straight to series and starts production this spring. The film was shot in Washington State.
Alongside Acting, I offer personal training, coach athletes, and am also a Recording Artist in the Pop and R&B genre. My single “Oh (Move Ya Body)” produced by Vinny D is also available on all digital music platforms worldwide. I’m also an Aviator / Licensed Student Pilot; flying single-engine aircraft. So far I’ve flown a Piper Warrior II and a Piper Cherokee Warrior. Doing a lot of flying at KUSA Aviation and planning on graduating by the end of the year to receive my PPL.
Last and surely not least, my greatest accomplishment is now becoming a father to my beautiful daughter Yani Mareé Arguelles Slaughter. Being a father and stepping into fatherhood truly makes me want to level up and be more than I ever could be. Yani inspires me to reach the unreachable. Having a family that supports my dreams, a family that loves me unconditionally and wants to see me thrive; you just can’t top that. The life I chose definitely has its perks, I get to travel to amazing places and meet and work with amazing people.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not. It’s a very tough road that most people wouldn’t take because of the uncertainty. Sometimes I catch myself second-guessing.
Even get a bit frustrated because, from an Actor’s perspective, it seems that Casting directors are the gatekeepers guarding the gate to one’s success and it can be discouraging to think that way. I’ve come a long way and I’m still not where I want to be yet.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an American actor, Aviator/Student Pilot flying single-engine aircraft, and a Recording artist. As an actor I’m known for the (2019) Feature film “90 Feet From Home”, the (2021) Feature film “Meteor” and the (2022) Sci-Fi Adventure film “Egress”.
As a recording artist, my single “Oh (Move Ya Body)” and “RELAPSE” is on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, and all other digital retailers. I’m also a Certified Personal Trainer and owner of “JSlaughterFITNESS”. What sets me apart from others is aside from all that I do, I also have a regular 9 to 5 job. Having a regular job does humble me and makes me more appreciative of my career.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was the goofiest and skinniest out of all my family and friends. The optimism I have now has always been there though. I always knew I was destined for something more out of myself.
Since I was a kid, I was always uncomfortable with the thought of being like everyone else or molding into what everyone else was doing. I also wanted to create my own lane and stay in it.
