Rising Stars: Meet Rolf Duverna

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rolf Duverna.

Rolf, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Rolf Duverna, born on February 14, 1997, I am Haitian, born and raised. My journey so far has its ups and downs but it’s my determination and the goals that I set for myself that keep me going. My parents always asked me what I see myself doing as a career; it never occurs to me that photography and videography would be something that I enjoy doing very much. It started as a hobby in high school every weekend, I would spend hours and hours watching others doing photography. Then I tell myself this is something I wouldn’t mind doing for the rest of my life. I met a lot of awesome people along the way that motivates me to get better as well encourage me to never give up on my dreams.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My biggest issue is consistency. Things are not where I want them to be. There are times I would go months and months without picking up the camera due to the fact I feel unmotivated as well as not getting enough business. But overall, I can that I’m making progress.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I consider myself a portrait photographer; however, I tend to experiment with my work. There times I would choose a month and focus on one particular type of photography, for example, the month of January can be all about black and white and the following month I focus on conceptual photography. When it comes to videos, mostly its all about events such as weddings, proposals, promotional and sometimes marketing. Although, I want to branch out into the music videos someday.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice is to be who you are don’t follow trends and stay true to yourself. In the photography world, there’s a lot of competition and sometimes you can feel lost as to what you want to do next, I always tell myself nobody can be you there’s only one you long as you have a vision and a determination you’ll get there.
