Today we’d like to introduce you to Naomy Godoy.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I like to think of myself as a true artist due to there being nothing I don’t find interesting. You name it; mixed media, painting, sculpting, jewelry making, makeup artistry, photography, even poetry – I’ve done it. My journey as a creative all started at a very young age. It was all sparked by pure curiosity and the thrill of reinventing things to show the world my point of view of how I see things. A lot of times, it’s a form of self-expression and other times, it’s a burst of inspiration fed off of other creatives. Either way, there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t get creative in some way shape or form and I love it. Getting creative every day is my form of living life in color.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road to be honest. It has been a lot of figuring out what I want to do in life and what I am meant to do. I had started off making it just a hobby and found it’s not that easy transitioning it to making a living. And hardships don’t always prove to be the obvious financial turmoil either. Often times it can be the constant battle of not being good enough to be seen or the lack of support from your own family/friends; but more than anything it’s the self-critical voice within that holds me back from showing everything I have to offer. I have SO much more that I have created in the past that I haven’t yet released only because I am my worst critic. So funny cause I will be the first person to support my family, friends, and even a perfect stranger that what they create matters and needs to be seen – it’s just easier to believe it for others over myself.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in all things creative! I started off as portraying myself as just a makeup artist since I was a professional Makeup Artist for MAC cosmetics for over five years but over time, I have expanded to general creativity because there is so much more to me than just makeup! I am someone who strives for excellence in everything I do even my hobbies. That’s something that you can’t really teach someone – to do everything they do at the best of their ability and add 10% on top of that. Characteristics like that are hard to come by these days. I am proud to be a multimedia artist – the way I see every form of art connect together and it just makes sense makes me feel like I have some kind of superpower.
I am proud to inspire my community – being an artist is more than producing work for self-gratification, it’s about inspiring your fellow creatives/artists to spread the celebration of life.
I am proud to be a creative – it’s my unique fingerprint that makes me different.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory would be more than just a moment in time. My favorite memory as a child was the infinite imagination and way of thinking I had. Before technology is my favorite childhood memory. I love how technology nowadays allows for us all to connect in ways we could never imagine back in the day – but never did anyone see it coming that we would be so connected yet disconnected at the same time.
As a child, I remember when I would have nothing to entertain myself but a cluster of trees at recess. (This was back in the day when playing outside meant more to a child than playing on a computer.) That was my favorite time of school (minus art class) because an opportunity like that would always let my mind take flight. It allowed for me to play “house” just by drawing an apartment layout on the dirt with a stick and making it nice and homey with some leaves and more sticks. It gave me a chance to see the world in so much detail like the caterpillars that were wrapping themselves up in a warm cocoon getting ready to transform to their best self; or the vast number of seeds on the dandelion puffballs and how perfectly placed they were to create the pattern they did – almost like a snowflake.
All in all, my favorite childhood memory was my imagination and attention to detail.
