Rising Stars: Meet King Pone

Today we’d like to introduce you to King Pone.

Hi King, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
For lack of better words… “I Am Music.” There hasn’t been a moment in my life when I wasn’t behind the microphone. I’ve dedicated my whole life to this s**t. From sleeping in the car homeless to risking my life and freedom on the road, every move I’ve made in my life has been made so I could do music.

Everything that’s been accomplished up to now has been done with no budgets, no team, and no sponsors or managers….just me and the Mafia. Which is why it’s “MAFIA BIDNIZZ OR NO BIDNIZZ.” From the music to the videos, and the live shows, I’m working to be one of the elites, one of those artists that you talk about for 20-30 years and even after they’re no longer here. I’m tryna be the Michael Jackson of rap music.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve been homeless, broke, lost everything, lost relationships all day. It’s never a smooth road to greatness so f**k the struggles… every “L” is a lesson not a loss so I try two looks at it that way. If I focus on all the times I’ve felt like I’ve failed on this journey, I would probably depressed everyday or suicidal. Every story is part of the book so I just keep turning da pages. As an artist who’s sacrificed everything for this, it’s easy to trick yourself into believing your not progressing when you don’t see s**t goin your way or when people say s**t like “damn you the total package why aren’t you signed or why haven’t you made it yet?” The biggest obstacle overall is patience and waiting for your time to be the one.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
So look, my name is King Pone aka Sauce Pwa Papi…if you don’t know me, your girl knows me and if she don’t, she knows somebody who do. I represent FBA which is “Family Before All” so if you rockin with me, you ain’t no fan you part of my Fam and if you part of my Fam then you’re part of the Mafia. No one records music like I do, I don’t sound like anyone, and when I’m on stage there is no other show to watch. Music is all I know. I hate answering questions like this because it feels like I’m bragging or being cocky but I only speak on what I can back up. There isn’t anything in the world I’m more passionate about than this…

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Everything comes from doin things with the right intention and a pure heart. I could’ve been dead a few times… we all lucky to be alive.
