Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiana Scott.
Hi Kiana, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Growing up my mom and aunt would take me to the nail shop with them and I absolutely loved the smell of monomer! Aside from the smell, I fell in love with the atmosphere of the conversations, the choice of colors, and the joy it brought both the customer and the nail technician.
I’ve been very artistic for as long as I can remember. While everyone hated making projects, I loved doing them since it allowed me to draw and show that artsy side of myself.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I’d be lying if I said the road was glitz and glamour. I started off strong and had a handful of supporters which made me extremely grateful. Along the way, I became demotivated and started to lose faith in myself.
Not having many people come to me does make things challenging but I also knew that having faith was all I needed.
I will continue to try and if I fail I’ll get up strong and go again.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I don’t have a regular 9-5 which makes my time extremely flexible to accommodate nails. During the days I work with embroidery and vinyl which also allows me to be creative. I specialize in acrylic which is considered to be the harder form of nail extensions.
I do mostly hand-painted art, gel polishes, and overlays. It’s a great skill to have whether it be GelX or Polygel. I’m extremely proud of the journey I’ve had because I was able to teach myself all the things I’ve learned (with help from YouTube and different classes) and bring some joy into people’s lives by doing their nails.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was a very quiet child growing up. I usually speak when spoken to. I had a love for art and reading. Being the oldest of two I had life pretty easy until my brother entered the world 11 years later. It was a weird transition from being the only child to having to share attention with another.
I spent most of my life in Jamaica and it led me to some amazing people that have supported me on this journey. I came back to States which led me to grow up quicker than I should have. All in all, I turned out to be more outspoken but still stayed to myself.
