Rising Stars: Meet Jasmine Harding

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Harding.

Hi Jasmine, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Before JasAppeal, I had just started doing hair. I was beginning to gain a good amount of traction and customers when Covid-19 first came about. I decided it was best to stop taking appointments due to the pandemic and lost most of my customers. As the virus continued to prove its seriousness and quarantine ensued, I was left with just the memory of my up and coming business. After sitting through quarantine for a couple of weeks, I decided that I was going to take the positive out of my situation. My love of makeup and desire to never let my circumstances determine my attitude led me to the creation of JasAppeal Lashes. The idea of the soap bottle design was a way to add some glamor amongst the gloom and fear surrounding the virus. The novelty and beauty in my design drew customers in! I have now added JasAppeal Dazzlers and when the pandemic is over, I will continue with JasAppeal Hair.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Deciding to start a business selling lashes was risky because the market is extremely saturated. However, I believed in my design, so I continued to move forward. During the process, knowing that there were others already doing and succeeding in what I wanted to do only pushed me harder. I didn’t know much about pricing and which products to choose and unfortunately some people tried to take advantage of my lack of experience. I took it as a learning curve, and in the end I found the products that were just right for me and my business. When I was about to launch, I had to do a lot of promotion, and it helped me to get better at networking. It was slow at first and I didn’t get a sale on my launch date but that didn’t discourage me and soon it started to pick up!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am currently selling high quality mink lashes and body/face vegan and cruelty free highlighters that I call JasAppeal dazzlers. I also do hair and will be adding JasAppeal hair as soon as it’s safe to do so. Even though I was doing hair first, I am notorious for JasAppeal. I believe what sets me apart from others is my unique packaging, attention to detail, and quality of my products. I make my dazzlers with all vegan ingredients to ensure the safety of my customers, and they’re packaged in a unique glass bottle with a roller for easy applications. My lash soap bottle packaging is also glass and fully functional with a cute little reminder on the label to slay and stay sanitized during these times. I love my business and I’m proud of its success, but what I’m most proud of is the process it took for me to get here. During the whole creation of JasAppeal I was very particular on every detail I wanted. I’ve never done anything like this before, so a lot of things were a learning curve. I would hit certain snags in the road, but I’m proud of the perseverance I had and the drive that I didn’t know I had in me. JasAppeal is my baby and the journey it took for it to come to fruition wasn’t easy but I enjoyed every minute of it!

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice to anyone starting a business is don’t be afraid to do the research. Look into every avenue, watch videos, or even speak to someone who has a business like that or similar. Doing these things can help eliminate preventable mistakes. I would also say don’t give up! If that’s your dream or passion, don’t let anyone discourage you from it.
