Today we’d like to introduce you to Jake Schwartz.
Hi Jake, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I performed my first magic trick at the ripe old age of two years old, and I was instantly hooked on magic. I never grew out of the magic within the tricks, and I am now one of the fastest-rising stars of magic in the country. I made the decision to devote my life to magic at the age of 10 and officially started my business at the age of 16. I remember going around my neighborhood and shoveling the snow off of people’s driveways to pay for my first website.
Now, I am an international award-winning magician who has been called “The New Face Of Magic” by media outlets around the world. I perform regularly all over the country for universities, fortune-500 companies, pro sports teams, sold-out theaters, and TV shows (In fact, I am one of the few magicians in the country with over 40 television appearances).
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been so many bumps along the road and those bumps ultimately make you into a better magician, performer, and businessman. You have to keep in mind, as a professional magician, there is a lot more that goes into my business besides doing magic tricks. I need to know how to sell myself, market myself, brand myself, create content, write material, and more. All of those things are full-time jobs within themselves. So, for me, my focus has been on constantly improving, and constantly getting more efficient, so that I can provide the best possible product on stage for my audiences.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in corporate and university shows, but I also perform in theaters. I have always felt that there was an unspoken “right” way of doing magic. There were expectations of what a magician was supposed to be and how he/she was supposed to perform. I never subscribed to the idea that there is “one right way” of doing magic. I have always felt like magicians limited themselves based on what the past has said was possible for them. It is my goal to redefine what it means to be a magician. When everyone else goes right, I want to explore going left. I recently started a podcast called “Sponsors Pending” where I talk about the ups and downs of life as a rising magician in the entertainment industry. The show is crazy, wacky, funny, and goofy. It is a show where anything can happen and anything goes. I love being able to give listeners an experience they would NEVER expect to hear from a magician (or any performer for that matter).
What do you think about happiness?
The moment when someone experiences true magic is unlike any other feeling in the known universe. I don’t see magic as a competition (i.e., the magician vs the spectator), I see magic as a journey we all go on together. After all, magic does not exist in the hands of the magician…it exists in the minds of the spectators. That journey, that magical payoff, and being able to inspire people along the way is what makes me happy.
