Rising Stars: Meet Andrea Castaneda

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Castaneda.

Andrea, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras and her beginnings as an artist were from a very young age.

At 13, I worked as an illustrator at Calderon company in Honduras. I sold my first painting and did my first mural. I didn’t have easy adolescence. When I moved to Mexico, I became the subject of bullying, and my parents divorced. I never stop painting and believing in my dreams. This made me stronger in knowing who I wanted to become in the future. I continued my art career studying at Savannah College of Art & Design, where I got a 70% scholarship. Where I looked for a year after I continued my studies in Graphic Design in Mexico and, at the same time, worked as an illustrator for several foreign companies.

I moved back to Honduras on the Roatan island, where I had the opportunity to work as a muralist.

I became a star painting and making art shows on the island of Roatan. I painted different restaurants, bars, and Dive shops. Since then, I have continued my art career as a muralist in Mexico and the United States. This has allowed her to present my works in art galleries such as Miami, NY, Washington DC, Italy, Reston VA, Cocoa Beach FL, Melbourne FL, Woodbridge VA, etc. I decided to keep studying as a Fine Artist at Milan Art Institute. I just graduated this year.

I’m living in Miami now. I am part of many art shows and art galleries. I’m getting to know you in the area.

I’m building a Honduran online art gallery with the famous artist MC Gallery, which will feature Honduran artists. I’m a member of different art groups Studios of Cocoa Beach, League of Reston Artists, AHAP Honduran artist Organization and Sacred art productions, Brevard Cultural Alliance Prince William Art Society, Prince William Art County, ART4US.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When I moved to Mexico, I became the subject of bullying, and my parents divorced. I never stop painting and believing in my dreams. I continued my art career studying at Savannah College of Art & Design, where I got a 70% scholarship.

Even though bullying never stops even in University. This made me stronger in knowing who I wanted to become in the future and showing the world that I’m a talented and visionary artist.

Where I looked for a year after I continued my studies in Graphic Design in Mexico and, at the same time, worked as an illustrator for several foreign companies.

After that, I moved to Honduras and there was a big political problem. People were destroying the city and we had a curfew. I was living with my family and we had some differences in politics so I had to move to another place. I ended up moving to the island of Roatan where I started making murals. A few years later I moved to the USA and I decided to study Fine Arts at Milan Art Institute. I knew that the competition in the artwork in the USA was big.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m known for my mystic and surrealistic artwork. Mystic art expresses and is inspired by the spiritual side of art, the seeking of inspiration and pure emotion. I can catch a pure emotion and paint it on a canvas. My art inspires growth, beauty, and power to me and the viewer.

People say that my artwork is very magical and they like that they can feel a strong emotion in it. I love to add blue to my paintings because my art is inspired by the Ocean and the waves of the ocean.

I just like the energy that lies beyond what we see; I use different techniques and textures to make my work look dynamic and with movement, just as waves rumbling in the depths of the mind’s imagination.

I’m proud that I decided to never give up always study to learn more and become a better artist. People tell me that I’m like a sponge because I’m open to learning more every time.

I have a big vision for my art in the future.

I’m an oil painter but I also like to paint in different mediums such as Acrylics, Ink, and markers. I like to add modeling paste to artwork, Resin, abalone leaf, diamond dust, and gold leaf.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
When I was a child, I loved to play with my sibling and draw with them. I used to create small comics with my sister and sometimes my little brother join us and painted with us it was so fun.
