Rising Stars: Meet Alfredo Sandoval

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alfredo Sandoval.

Hi Alfredo, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a creative thinker, always trying to evaluate all the options of the design process in order to develop the project and looking for the best results after planning it.

I design and take the idea or sketch to the prototype of my products, giving a better vision of the planned and desired idea. I have been constantly working on personal projects as well as collaborating as a designer with others.

Some of these projects were to create and form the Venezuelan School of Desing (Escuela de Diseño de Venezuela), a publication on the 2006 yearbook design due to a prize won at the Thonet Tomorrow Contest in Milano, Italy for my “Bendwood Chair”. Currently, I am working on several personal brands.

Over time, I have developed both tasks related to the industry and personal projects, giving me the experience that has made me the professional I am today. I currently live in Miami, after emigrating from my native country Venezuela. Here, I have managed to make an art gallery (@picadilloart) and promote a creative and interactive space with other artists in the area.

Among my most current designs, I am developing some children’s characters (@themonsterslife) who, through their adventures, show us our fears and how to move forward despite having them. I would like to work with a toy manufacturer or Disney corp. to be able to make this project bigger and why not? Make some cartoons of them…

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I could only say that being a designer is not often the career with the highest level of economic success… And another of my current struggles is being away from home and my relatives.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an Industrial Designer by profession, but experience has led me to work in various aspects of design such as graphic design, interior design, architectural design, creative marketing campaigns, inventing stories, etc.

I am proud of almost all my creations, although there are several personal projects that have stood out and have led me to work with very good brands in the field of furniture design.

What were you like growing up?
I was always curious and talkative, with notebooks full of drawings, graffiti, and poetry… I have 3 brothers and a sister older than me.

My parents have always supported me in my decisions and were able to give me my education including my studies in other countries other than Venezuela.

Art and design have always been my thing… despite not having anyone close in my family who is an artist, I came out drawing and playing music since
