Today we’d like to introduce you to Yuly Lopez.
Yuly, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up in Colombia, cooking with grandma and watching cooking shows on TV inspired my creativity in the kitchen. Eventually, my passion for cooking led me to Toronto, Canada where I graduated from Culinary School and worked several years behind the line. In 2010, I moved to Miami where I currently reside with my husband. I fell in love with this beautiful city for its’ people, beaches, music, and vibrant flavors. A few years back, I took a new direction with my career and followed a hidden interest, marketing. While enjoying my new venture, I kept thinking about my love for food and decided to use social media to blend both passions.
In 2016, I created @OneHungryChica intending to help people discover good restaurants in Miami as well as sharing my recipes with those who love to cook. Whether it’s exploring new flavors mastering your delicious meal at home, or spending your hard earned money wisely visiting a new restaurant. OneHungryChica wants to help guide you, inspire you and celebrate with you!
To be honest, the support of my family, friends and followers is what drives my blog. It’s very rewarding when someone says they had a great time at a place I recommended or when they enjoyed making a recipe I shared. That’s what makes me keep pushing forward! I’m still a bit in awe when a restaurant reaches out or followers tag me on their very own foodie adventures. What started as an outlet to share my cooking and my delicious finds, has become a great platform to help the community in their own journey.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of my biggest challenges would be trying to stay focused on maintaining a balanced lifestyle. I love to indulge in delicious food, but I also find it very important to have a healthy routine that includes good nutrition and regular exercise. Everything posted to OneHungryChica, I’ve eaten which looking back… yea, time for the gym!
Please tell us about your work.
OneHungryChica is the love, passion and excitement that food brings to us all. It’s about exploring new flavors in your kitchen or at a restaurant and it’s not limited to only food. Wine, beer and cocktails are also featured on my blog. OneHungryChica helps businesses gain exposure to individuals and helps individuals find the best places in Miami and other places I travel to. I also share favorite recipes with those who enjoy cooking at home and may need some inspiration in the kitchen. Recipes I have learned or created myself, as well as, curated recipes that others share with me and I recreate in my kitchen.
What I’m most proud of is to know how the content on OneHungryChica has resonated with so many, the support of my friends and family along with my followers, it’s truly inspiring to keep pushing forward. Engaging the community, getting to know so many like-minded friends, it’s been quite an experience so far.
Having the culinary background has helped me appreciate the dedication so many hard working chefs and business owners put into their creations. I’ve met countless restaurant managers and chefs that truly care, want to bring something back to their communities and share their passions with those around them. I’d like to think my posts are a reflection of my respect for their dishes. Learning about their story, what brought them to where they are and seeing the joy on their faces. I like shining the light on these places, these people. They’re the ones who truly deserve praise.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I believe that an essential characteristic of success is to be persistent and staying focused on your goals. When I first started my blog, I didn’t post consistently and it wasn’t until recently that I realized the impact that OneHungryChica can have on people. This year has been a great year and I’m just getting started! As OneHungryChica continues to grow, I’m working on new goals and exciting projects coming in 2020. Make sure to follow and stay tuned!
