Meet Victoria Milian of Victory4Kids Foundation in Majority of Miami

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Milian.

Victoria, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am 16 years old and a junior in high school. When I was nine years old, my grandfather was diagnosed with colon cancer. We were all devastated by his diagnosis, but little did I know, it would inspire me to help kids that are going through the same things he went through. My grandfather went through intense chemotherapy treatments and very often had really bad side effects from the harsh chemicals being pumped into his body that was only trying to get rid of his cancer.

On November 18, 2014, when I was 12 years old, the day no one wanted to come had arrived. My grandfather had passed away around 4 pm and we were all saddened by his passing, but we knew he was no longer suffering. I had always been interested in helping children with cancer but one day I had learned that most of these kids battling cancer receive the same treatments and drugs as an adult were too. I automatically thought, “Wow, my grandfather was so sick after his treatments and he was around 72 years old. How can a child have the same treatments as him and it just be okay?”

From that day on, I knew that I wanted to do something to bring a smile on these courageous kids faces. In April of 2016, I pitched the idea of doing something to honor my grandfather but to also help these kids. I knew exactly what I wanted to do and after brainstorming with my dad for a couple of days, we finally had the perfect name for the non-profit! On April 13, 2016, when I was in 8th grade, Victory4Kids Foundation was officially established with the goal of bringing joy to childhood cancer patients as well as kids with life-threatening illnesses one care package at a time! We visit Holtz Children’s Hospital, Miami Cancer Institute, and Baptist Children’s Hospital occasionally to deliver care packages and do arts and crafts with the kids. We also have a program called “Victory Kid Packages” where a child’s parent fills out a form on our website and we send them a care package personalized to what they like.

With the help of our generous supporters, we were also able to donate a Nintendo Switch to a leukemia fighter and send a little girl who is fighting brain cancer to Disney World to celebrate her last chemotherapy! At first, raising funds wasn’t easy but I knew it was a start, so I never gave up and kept fighting for the kids. Over time, we have had so many amazing supporters that have helped us tremendously. Today, two years after the start, we have sent about 200 care packages to the hospitals, 300 boxes of band-aids to the Baptist Children’s Hospital, 42 personalized Victory Kids packages and have granted two wishes! This is only the beginning and I cannot wait to see what the future brings us!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a smooth road in creating Victory4Kids, but the only struggle we face is the lack of donations to help us continue creating all the care packages for the Victory Kid program and hospital visits.

Victory4Kids Foundation – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Victory4Kids is a non-profit organization created by Victoria Milian that is dedicated to creating care packages for children battling cancer & other life-threatening illnesses, making their days brighter while at the same time, spreading awareness of childhood cancer.

We create care packages for kids fighting cancer & other life-threatening illnesses.

We are most proud of the fact that we have been able to bring so much joy to these kids. It’s crazy how much a little care package can make someone’s day!

What sets us apart from others is that we have the one on one experience with the kids not only bringing them joy through toys but also showing them they are not alone and have someone they can talk to. We also build relationships with these families and follow up with them throughout the child’s journey.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
We love everything about Miami. We have amazing children hospitals here like Baptist Children’s Hospital, Miami Cancer Institute and Holtz Children’s Hospital that we work closely with alongside their child life specialist to bring joy to the kids that are inpatient and in the clinic.
