Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Godoy.
Emily, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Upon starting college, I came across fashion blogs and I fell in love with them! I started reading them regularly and I found so much inspiration from them. During my second semester in college, I interned for a local fashion blogger. This was my first introduction to the blogging world! I dreamed of having my own fashion blog since this internship, but I never thought I “was good enough” to have one. I kept thinking, “who would even read it anyway?” So, I put it off. Aside from admiring fashion blogs, I also love styling. Family and friends have been approaching me for style advice for as long as I can remember. Styling them for a trip, an occasion, or re-organizing their closet and going shopping with them, has always come naturally to me and it lights me up. Finally, I decided to take a leap of faith the summer before my last year of college. I couldn’t stop thinking about pursuing this passion of mine: to start a blog and create a destination that can serve as inspiration and a resource for the modern girl. I have been blogging since August 2018 and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made because it has opened up new opportunities, I have met some great friends and I’ve been able to share my passion with other like-minded women and inspire them in return.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road, but then again that’s what makes it all worth it. Some struggles along the way have been figuring out all of the tech and back-end of a website and balancing school and job hunting while maintaining the blog. If you are just starting out on your journey, I suggest finding a mentor or a friend that you can relate to, to help guide you and to have as a support system!
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I have a passion for helping the modern girl embrace her personal style. I share fashion and style inspiration and advice on my blog, Instagram, and newsletter on a weekly basis! I also offer 1:1 personal styling services. I’m most proud of my ability to connect with others online and share as much value and style advice as possible.
We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
Barriers to female leadership in my industry are not as prominent since my industry is a mainly female dominated industry. Women in the fashion and blogging community have essentially become trailblazers and pioneers for a new kind of career that has only recently become possible.
