Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexia Frith.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a Natural Hair and Beauty YouTuber/Blogger. I create videos centered around how to care for your hair, and product reviews on the latest hair products. I started my channel just to see what would happen honesty. Then people starting watching, and feeling inspired by my videos. I began to talk about accepting your hair texture and skin tone, just exuding as much self-love as I could. That approach resonated with my viewers and some hair brands as well. Currently I have turned blogging into my second job. I’ve spoken on Panels, collaborated with other bloggers, and been contracted to work with some of my favorite brands.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some struggles have been remaining motivated when I felt like my brand wasn’t growing at the speed I desired. I also found myself comparing my growth to other bloggers in the space. I’ve since then realized how dangerous and simply unproductive those thoughts were. Now I look to other bloggers as inspiration, and I try my best to learn from them. Honing in on my craft, working extremely hard, and constantly learning is what’s gotten me through many ruts. I hope that was helpful.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about KandidKinks – what should we know?
I create content centered around Natural Hair and Beauty. My videos typically include product reviews, hair tutorials, chit chats, and encouraging words when I can squeeze them in. Sometimes I delve into current events, and music/media reviews just for fun. I don’t box myself in too much so I don’t feel restricted. It keeps my content fun and it keeps me learning new techniques and excited about my work. I am most proud of being contracted to speak at Natural Hair events. I have met so many likeminded beautiful women that feel inspired by something that I’ve done, said, or simply how I chose to wear my hair. Being organically me, and completely honest with my following is what sets me apart. My subscribers know that I would not betray their trust for exposure or sponsorships, and that keeps our bond tight.
Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
Some favorite books of mine that have helped me keep my head on straight recently would have to be “the Subtle Art of Not Giving a F***” “You Are A Bada**” It’s funny that they are both so profane, but the reality of the stories really does more for me than the normal happy-go-lucky self-help books.
