Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracy Hooker.
Tracy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My journey began back in San Francisco. Where the Bay is nice and had bragging rights about living near the “Full House” house.
My teenage sister needed headshots for her modeling portfolio and what a better idea then to have me to snap photos of her. I was 8. Little did she know that she was introducing me to a world I grew up to love. From chasing my cats around for a perfect shot to envisioning concepts to better my craft, I knew instantly that photography would play a major role in my life. I joined yearbook my junior year in high school and was exposed to digital photography and what a life changer that was. I was exposed to endless possibilities. Fast forward to 2009, I showcased my photography to the public and the rest is history.
I shot small events and family portraits as I was slowly making my mark in the photography world. In 2010 a couple took a chance and booked me as their wedding photographer. From that opportunity, it opened doors to more work in event & fashion photography. I am blessed to have been able to cover events for great companies such as Pollo Tropical & Christian Dior. Blizz Photos has become a place where I am able to experiment with concepts and collaborate with talented creatives in the area. I see bright things coming for Blizz Photos and I can’t wait to share what’s next.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road wasn’t always smooth. I hit a few bumps, I had lost my passion for a moment. I lost sight of what I was doing and became a robot behind the camera. I gave myself a break to rethink and analyze what I wanted out of this company. That’s when it hit me, I had abused and over worked myself to the point that I was beginning to hate my craft. I knew something needed to change. In 2015 my youngest sibling started his production company BlueNight Productions and recruited me as Head of Photography. That’s where the fire reignited and Blizz Photos started up again. I thank my brother every day for inspiring me to get back to it.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Blizz Photos story. Tell us more about the business.
My business tailors to creatives that want to bring their “out of the box” ideas to life. I’m a photographer specializing in maternity, family, high fashion, corporate, engagement and weddings. I am proud to have an amazing team that ventures out on my crazy last-minute shoots and goes above and beyond to satisfy the client’s request. Whether it’s keeping them hydrated during a hot and humid sunny day or safe during a 5 min rainstorm. (Miami am I right?) My team and I will always climb that tree for the perfect shot. My goal is to bring the inner child out to play and capture genuine happiness that will reflect in the photos. While everyone else tells you to grow up, I encourage you to stay young.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Children photography was actually one of the biggest influences as I have 2 nephews and a niece that love the camera. I’m definitely focusing on transitioning into a Maternity and Children’s photographer. I love all types of shoots but maternity has won my heart.
