Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Schmidt.
Tim, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 2001, I answered an online ad touting a sales opportunity with a “disruptive SEO Agency.” Always interested in what the web was becoming, I literally left my home State of Minnesota to see what this 100% commission job was all about. People thought I was absolutely nuts. However, I learned the fundamentals of Internet Marketing and just over a year later started my own Digital Marketing Agency. Like they say, the rest is “history.”
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not at all. I found that people aren’t very receptive to new ways of advertising. When I started, people favored Yellow Pages over search engine ads. That paradigm has shifted, of course. There are also many algorithm updates that we must overcome. It certainly is a hands-on game where you must be aware of the landscape at all times.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Digital marketing can mean many things. SEOe is most known for search engine optimization, which is essentially helping websites become found in the organic search results of all major search engines.
However, we’re versed in every facet of digital marketing. I own multiple e-commerce businesses in the health & wellness sector, am a top seller on Amazon.com, and also teach affiliate marketing tactics in a web-based course called Affiliate U. I draw on my experiences and challenges faced in these businesses every day, which means that by the time a client even brings the various hurdles they face to my attention, I’ve already found a solution I can plug in and essentially keep things moving along. I’m one of the rare SEO’s that actually practices everything he preaches and tests on his own sites and businesses.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
You create your own luck. If you are out there every single day, in the trenches, busting your hump, you are going to get some favorable bounces. On the flip side, you are going to have bad luck from sheer time spent in the space. To me, it’s how you react to situations that truly shapes your life and business.
