Today we’d like to introduce you to Tikia Douglas.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started my journey in entertainment as a college student interning for Tj Chapman of TJs Djs I worked at his store Wildstyle music and more in Tallahassee, Florida. I learned the ins and outs about the mixtape game. I also learned about the relationships artists and labels built with djs and Mom and Pop stores to market their single or album. After that, I moved on to intern at the local radio station I was with them up until I graduated from Florida A&M University. My passion for the music business continued as I began to spend time with up and coming artists and producers I loved the fact that I was able to work with them in the developing stages of their career. Ntenz Soulz was developed from the intense love I have for new artist and the enjoyment I get from helping them develop their craft.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nope, not at all. Throughout the years I’ve had my ups and downs. The bills weren’t going to pay themselves so I decided to become a teacher. I still maintained my company but spent less time focusing and developing it. The great thing is I was able to involve myself with other companies while still maintaining my brand. I got into developing showcases and events. I found out that putting events together is not easy it takes a lot of work and patience.
Please tell us about Ntenz Soulz Enterprises.
I now focus more on my writing, I’ve written bios and co-created EPKs for numerous artists. I’ve even assisted someone with their novel. I am currently working with Harlem and Denim which is an awesome experience it gives me a deeper insight in the development of a fashion line. Truth is I’m not much of a fashionista, but I’ve gained so much more respect fashion and design since I’ve gotten involved with the line. I am also working with a couple of emerging artists as well ZMH and T-Walk. Working and helping artist of any form to develop their brand is an extreme high for me because it allows me to be a creative.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love diversity here in Miami and all of South Florida. I least like the the idea of limitation when it comes to entertainment. I believe we can be as big as any other city if we all work and support one another’s projects.
