Meet Tatiana Irizar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatiana Irizar.

Tatiana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
While studying communications at Andrés Bello Catholic University in Caracas Venezuela, I participated in the Miss Venezuela pageant, where I nominated 2nd finalist. During the contest, I met several executives and producers of Venevisión, a television channel that had the rights to the contest. At that time, I expressed my interested in possibly starting to work as a journalist, which resulted in a 14-year career.

At first, I was given the opportunity to start as an intern in the press department. After being an intern, I was promoted to a writer and serving as a substitute for presenters of the morning broadcast of the news… I worked two years in that position and then I was promoted again to reporter and producer of the entertainment segment of the News called “Estrenos y Estrellas”, where I worked for five years.

During that time I received an offer from another television channel called Televen, to be the host of the entertainment space of the News called “Lo Actual”, I was there only for a few months until I received a call back from Venevisión, this time to offer me the position of presenter and general producer of the entertainment section “Estrenos y Estrellas”, I made the decision to return to Venevision and accept the offer, I held that position for seven years.

During those 14 years of working in the press department, I had the opportunity to be producer of special operations during the presidential and governor elections and I also served as a presenter of the reality shows “Protagonistas de Novela y Estrellas de la Música”, I was a presenter of the Miss World broadcasts and the Miss Universe in Venevision and two lotteries, “Chance” and “Super cuatro” for one and seven years respectively. I also traveled to Colombia as a guest presenter for the Caracol channel broadcast of the national beauty pageant in Cartagena and was a presenter and producer of the launch of Venevision Continental in the city of Miami.

I decided to leave Venevision to devote myself to a personal project. I was co- founder of @marketclo and three friends created the brand, an Instagram based site that is dedicated to the sale of used luxury fashion items. I have also been working as an image advisor, diction specialist and special management coordinator on television sets. A year and a half ago, I received a proposal from the independent production company Solasta Entertainment to conduct segments that offer help to women in optimizing their time in their daily roles as professionals, housewives, and their personal image. This is what inspired me to move to the United States a little over a year ago. Same time I have also invested in this project. As of a month ago, I have been working as a reporter at Univisión.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely has not been a smooth path but the bumps in the road, although I know I have had them, are not that clear to me because I have always focused on the positive aspect of everything making each one of those bumps a learning experience. There is no magic formula for success, if it even exists, it is subjective in my opinion, it just depends on each person’s priorities and needs. I personally believe that in order to achieve personal and professional success you have to work hard, set goals, and strive hard to accomplish them without getting frustrated in the meantime, instead, you should feel satisfied with the effort you put in and continue to give more and more each day while maintaining high self- confidence and remaining humble.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am currently enjoying a new stage in my career as a reporter for Noticias 23, Univision. Each journalist’s report is and has been a learning experience. The most extraordinary and rewarding thing about my job is having the ability to help and reach the community by sharing and addressing their concerns.

What were you like growing up?
I have always been a very curious and sensitive person… There are many topics that interest me, inspire me and motivate me. From architecture, art, cinema, literature and music to politics, economy, technology, health and everyday problems of our community… being a journalist, I can know and learn about all of them without choosing one in particular…
