Meet Suamy Fernandez and Ariel Saavedra of Realty Bears in Hialeah Gardens

Today we’d like to introduce you to Suamy Fernandez and Ariel Saavedra.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Suamy and Ariel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Well, a very interesting factor about Realty Bears is that when we started this company we didn’t have any Real Estate background, our professions weren’t related at all with this field.

A little bit of story about us, we made a career as Software Engineers in Havana, Cuba where we actually met. After graduating, we moved here to the US where my family was already living and we were able to start practicing our profession. Which was a big challenge and achievement for us since we were emigrants, without a full domain of the language and no experience working in the country. All those factors together got us really overwhelmed at some point, but we had a huge determination to fight for our American dream.

Two and a half years later we bought our first home, which became our first project, even though we didn’t know that at that moment. The house was in distressed so we had to do a full rehab, it was a lot of work but it certainly gave us kind of experience in this field and it was definitely the flame that kindled the fire.

Later, we bought our second property and did the same rehabbing process, but this time for rental purposes. After that, we started taking classes and going to Real Estate conferences and any kind of events related with that. Little by little we began to explore this fascinating but completely new world in which we had entered without realizing it. We were surprised when a couple friends ask us if we had a home for them, and that’s how we got involved in our third project, realizing that it was time to take it more seriously, so Realty Bears was born.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have always said “A road to be a road, has to have some stones”, so we are always kind of expecting those bumps and we try to be as much ready as we can to face them, which of course doesn’t mean we have succeeded overcoming them all.

There have been a lot of frustrations along the way (mostly from my side hahahaha) like we revealed before, we came as emigrants 5 years ago, the language still a challenge. When you have an accent or mispronunciation, people tend to underestimate you being young is not much help either. As a young couple, it’s been hard for us to be taken seriously and get people to trust us.

Also the fact that we didn’t have experience neither a broad knowledge about the Real Estate industry made this road a little bumpy for us. But remaining together and persistent with our goals has been our secret weapon in this climb. We know there is still a long way to go, a lot to learn and even more to improve, many more stumbles will get in the way but no fears and insecurities will take over our dreams. Staying hungry will lead us to more battles, but also to more victories.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
To expand our company is something that we are looking forward to do in a near future. Once we achieved this, we would be able to take more projects at the same and therefore to help more people.

Another big plan of Realty Bears would be start looking into commercial real estate, we would love to take our company to this huge next level.
