Today we’d like to introduce you to Solee.
Solee, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was inspired by the trance music put me in as a child. I was moved by the rhythm and melodies I heard and felt. When it hit my soul, I knew I wanted to be a part of it.
As I got older, I saw the music industry controlling women and I didn’t want to be a part of that. As fortunate would have it, through the growth of independent labels and groups like Master P’s No Limit, I knew I could strike out my own path as a female rapper and be a leader to other women as well too. And for them to know they are being represented by someone like them, and that they can be themselves.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to success is never an easy one, it’s filled with bumps, potholes, and even full-on stops. But, to get anywhere in this world, you just have to keep going. I’m grateful to God, my brother, and street family for supporting me and being there for me.
I’ve been lucky enough that when I hopped in the music game full steam, peopled loved it. That motivated me to keep going and my fans truly lit my path.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Trapocity was recently released, it’s on all platforms like iTunes, SoundCloud, YouTube and everything. I’m so proud of this album, it’s my first one and I had to make sure I loved it before I released it.
The first song, OOTD, is about coming out of the desert. It’s really about anyone coming from struggle to fight, and also literally about my people (middle eastern people and anyone else from places that relate) coming out of the desert… into your face.
The album continues onto talking about betrayal with Slide, and a militaristic viewpoint on Good Day to Die. One should always be prepared to live and die for what one believes.
On I Don’t C it, I’m looking at someone who is constantly acting like they’re gonna do something, be by your side or ride for you, and when duty calls, they’re nowhere to be found!
On Trip I really touch on domestic violence and control. Snatch Dat loosens up and is more of a dancing vibe, and I’m talking bout gettin that cash and doubling up.
The album ends on Thot. I freestyled this song and a few days later a close family friend was killed making this song even more meaningful to me… so I knew I had to release it.
