Meet Sogol Afsharjavan of Platform by Sogol Décor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sogol Afsharjavan.

Sogol, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
A dream of 18 years finally came true as a result of my constant visits to Miami from Washington, DC, to source one of a kind products and materials for my unique interior design projects. Much of the inspiration for my interior design creations and custom designs for my clients have come from my travels to European countries for trade shows as well as my many travels to the always inspiring and tropical Miami.

With each visit to Miami, I would expand my network of people in the design, fashion and art industry and eventually began expanding my design and lifestyle work to Miami projects and clients.

After designing and starting two concept house businesses in the DC area, my passion eventually inspired me to curate a lifestyle concept house, Platform by Sogol Décor, in Miami Beach, where I could bring my expansive network of people and creative talents from every aspect of lifestyle under one roof from all over the world.

I was adamant about finding a spot in the quaint and unique neighborhood of South of Fifth in Miami Beach. Not only was South of Fifth the location of my first commercial Miami design project that I took on 14 years ago, but this neighborhood has become my home away from home since then.

Throughout the years, I have come to learn and love this neighborhood and have seen the transformation and growth that has come with the multiple developments over the years. South of Fifth has spoiled me, and I knew my lifestyle concept house simply belongs here, as it is the first of its kind.

Has it been a smooth road?
It certainly has not been a smooth road for me, as I had to face many challenges to leave my home, family, friends and loved ones of 25 years in DC, to come to Miami and follow my dreams. However, I was lucky enough to have an incredibly supportive family to the extent that my daughter, a talented and skilled landscape designer and planner, decided to move to Miami and joined forces with me in establishing this unique concept.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Platform by Sogol Décor – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am proud to have started the journey of my life in the most ancient plateau, Persia. I grew up in a creative family with my parents being a Geologist and Archeologist and my grandfather being the architect-builder of the main Palace in my birth city of Tehran and therefore was exposed to so many little details and natural elements of life.

Just like many other Persians, the political circumstances forced me to explore and experience different countries and cultures throughout my childhood and finally my informative years, which I spent in Germany.

Languages were the first form of art that I found great interest in and eventually after studying German and French Literature, I studied to become an interior designer. My creativity, international background, and travels gave me the knowledge and confidence to take designing interiors to the next detailed level of curating my client’s lifestyles.

Today, after two decades of owning my interior design business, I am proud to have a referral based clientele with projects in many different cities in the US.

I believe as individuals we are all unique and creative people and that we all develop our own special relations with our clients, which sets us apart from others. We all connect in our own ways through special experiences, and that is what my work and concept house is based on. My Platform is a space to spark and create connections. It is a way for me to use my network to create collaborations and projects, it is a unique networking experience.

My roots and background have taught me traditional Persian hospitality. I have a passion to create, and this goes beyond design projects and into the kitchen and event production. After years of hosting events such as trunk shows, art exhibitions, and book signings for my network of creative artists, I am now able to host exclusive gatherings in my space which allow me to do what I do best – curate – all under one roof!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I have always been an enthusiast of Miami, because of it’s international vibe, inspiring tropical climate, and the Art Deco and Mediterranean architecture. The colors and light of this city are a constant inspiration.

I hope to see a more sustainable city in the near future.
