Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Falcone.
Alicia, born in Argentina, was an attorney at law before moving to Singapore, where she spent seven years living with her husband and two children. Alicia, the consummate traveler around the world, currently resides in Florida, after living a few years in New Orleans and Columbus, Ohio. She works as a Feng Shui Consultant, Interior Decorator, re-purposing rare findings and Zen painting artist.
Classic Asian style gets a modern makeover thanks to Alicia. Part Zen and part mod, the paintings uphold the rich traditions of the Far East while resonating with a contemporary audience. Prominent Chinese characters ground the paintings in the works of the East. They simultaneously are themselves a work of art contained within the context of a larger painting.
She personalizes these character renderings through playful brush strokes. More figurative imagery, such as someone meditating, continues the Chinese theme. Red paint, emphatically used in much of her work, harkens back to the symbolic colors found in China.
What distinguishes her paintings from more classic oriental works is her modern approach. She evokes the minimalism of the 1950s and ‘60s by painting grids and circles. Her bold shapes and stark contrasts in color position the paintings in a contemporary sphere, regardless of their subject matter. Many times she surprises the spectator with the use of recycled and reclaimed materials such as aluminum foil, cheesecloth, packaging material or tissue paper. Recycling these old and used materials, she gives them a new life creating high-quality abstract art.
Alicia opened her first company, AF Private Collection, Inc., in 2003 with her innovative vision of Zen and oriental paintings. She then ventured into e-commerce, opening Shogo Zen Art, her first online store, in 2017 (www.shogozenart.com). At this time she incorporated repurposed antiques sculptures and photography to her collection of Zen paintings.
The most important and distinct aspect of her artwork is that she focused on “energy” as an inspirational source. Her paintings and sculptures are created to transmit positive and high vibrational energy to improve her client’s surroundings and hence fill up with auspicious energy any environment.
Has it been a smooth road?
Maybe the constant relocation could be considered as a struggle and at the same time a great source of inspiration and learning. Because of my husband’s work, I had the great opportunity to move a lot, adapt to different cultures, languages, and ways of life.
So many times I had to start from scratch and left behind my professional career. When I was living in Singapore I was the founder of the first Spanish speaking magazine in the region and studied Feng Shui and some Chinese calligraphy. Plus, in my numerous trips, I could get in touch with Buddhism,(a compassionate way of life) that changed my life forever.
My art is a reflexion of my spiritual journey in Asia. Back to the USA, I studied interior decoration. After every relocation, my career and projects were left aside and, my kids, their schools and activities and adaptation… was first in the list of priorities.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I found my first S-Corporation in 2003, called AF Private Collection, Inc. The company specializes mainly in her art paintings.
In 2017, I ventured in e-commerce with my new website, www.shogozenart.com, launched in January 16, 2018, called Shogo Zen Art. Shogo Zen Art incorporated repurposed rare antique findings around the word (sculptures) and photography.
What differentiates our company is the emphasis that I gave to the high vibrational energy that I infuse to each of my artworks. Because we are energy vibrating and, interacting constantly with our surroundings, choosing properly every object to decorate our place in the right way, is essential.
A harmonious and peaceful environment allows us to relax, to work more efficiently and to rest properly. My artwork aims to provide auspicious energy and tranquility to any room. I use the Feng Shui principles in my artworks that helps to balance the energies.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, I’m totally convinced that our city is perfect for the art business.
