Meet Sheterria Elliott

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheterria Elliott.

Hi Sheterria, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My Name is Sheterria Heaven Elliott. I am a Model, Youtuber, Young entrepreneur, Bullying advocate from Miami Florida & I was born with Albinism. Growing up I have faced many trials and tribulations that have shaped me into the young woman that I am today. From the tinder age of 4 years older I have tackled Bullying, prejudice, ostracism, and just plain and simple low confidence in myself. A longing to fit society’s standards of beauty. But little did I realize I would beat the odds and break barriers for others like me, and people who are different in general by overcoming my hardships. Today you can find me in Books, Commercials, documentaries, music videos, new articles, and many more, all because I believed in myself and never gave up.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being that little girl who was always looked over by society…. That little girl who was Constantly Bullied for something I could not change Made Growing into the woman you see here today not easy AT ALL…..it took so much trial and error, so many tears, so many times I wanted to give up on life….but I didn’t! I choose not to let society’s perceptions of beauty destroy me into believing I had to be just like every other girl on the TV or social media to be beautiful…. I chose not to let it destroy me from blossoming into the young woman I am today. I’ve been called every name in the book, I’ve had food physically thrown at me by the age of 4 years old in Pre-K by older students, I’ve been told I was adopted , I struggled with the anxiety of never being able to be “pretty” enough to attract boys during my pre-teen and teen years. By 8th grade I had experienced a very life changing situation that involved Cyberbullying, a classmate of mine decided to take a picture of my blonde kinky curly hair while I was in class and posted the pictures all over social media calling me “Ramen Noodle Head”, leading to a frenzy of everybody else chiming in with their derogatory jokes and remarks. During that low point in my life I made the decision that I was no longer going to sit and be just another “Victim”. I chose to pick myself up with the help of my parents, Dr. Dorathy Bendross Mendingol, Representative Reggie Fullwood, and Senator Dwight Bullard, and we went to congress in Tallahassee to advocate so that no other kid would have to just sit there silent & experience the pain that I went through in vain. After working endlessly to ensure that ignorance is no longer taken as a joke, My Cyberbullying Bill the Imagine Sheterria Elliott Act was passed unanimously through the panel, And in that very moment senate bill 626 was born! My Bill ensures that any student who posts/Cyberbullies any student of the school system will be subjected to removing the post and will be reprimanded by authority. In my case I was not so lucky to have that helping hand, nobody was able to make my classmate remove the pictures because at the time there wasn’t anything that the school system could do about it. But now I am blessed to be able to help others, by Freshman year I still faced bullying due to me just coming into high school but I did not let that define who I was and who I am. Over time learning to except myself and all of me became one of my hardest battles mentally it was so draining, But I finally realized by my junior year in high school that it didn’t matter how much love I received at home….it didn’t matter how many times my family told me I was beautiful….it didn’t matter how many times another women told me to “love myself”…. I couldn’t truly love myself and step into my purpose until I was ready to fully love myself on my own! Learning to embrace my uniqueness and finally see that it’s so attractive! My mom has a book series about myself that educates young kids and adults on Albinism and differences called “But Mommy It’s Not Fair”, just to be able to be a bullying advocate & educate others on Albinism is so fulfilling to me. I have a little sister with Albinism who is looking up to me! She will always be able to look at her big sister and see that I am the rose that grows from the concrete and if I could do it then so could she! I’m also starting my own business for underrepresented beauties in the industry called S.H.E BLINKS where we will be providing everyday cosmetics while also including our redheads and blondes in the fun as well! An ignorant man on @thebreakfastclub once said, “where do Albinos go after high school?” Well, my answer to his absurd question is…. We go on to break barriers! We conquer! We secure the bag! We are successful! So the next time you look down upon somebody as unique as we are…just remember differences make the world go around, and I choose to embrace mine! I make my Albinism! It does not make me!
