My business began in December 2017 when I was originally called luxuriant wigs. Luxuriant stands for “growth” during that time I was growing mentally, spiritually, and emotionally as a person. Around that time, I was in college with bills and couldn’t afford to pay a hairstylist to do my hair so I decided to invest in myself: make my own wigs and save money to take care of other bills that were important.
I found my hobby/passion in making custom wigs by hand. Mind you, I began using needle, thread, wig canvas head, and a dome cap along with the bundles and either a closure or frontal. I had no idea how to sew, but I kept practicing and got the hang of it!!
I continue making wigs and my best friend helped me with finding a hair vendor and my friends allowed me to practice on them. I would always practice making wigs on a few of my friends and they always assured me my faults and victories. I evolved and started doing custom coloring, took a lace course and learned how to install wigs and mastered creating glueless wigs because I notice a lot of people didn’t like the glue adhesive method since some people experienced their edges falling out.
Eventually, through error and trial, I got better and mastered making glueless wig as a choice. I decided to expand my business which led to rebranding my business overall. I changed my business name to Luxuriant Beauty and learned how to make custom wigs using a sewing machine to ensure longevity. Additionally, I wanted to introduce different beauty products in hopes of enhancing my customers from head to toe. Then boom, that’s what I did. I added satin hair ties, diamond-studded stockings, turban head wraps, 3D mink eyelashes to name a few.
I give glory to God for instilling this talent and me because my business brings me joy not just financially but when my customers are satisfied and wanting to be the best version of themselves with my help, which is breathtaking.
Hence, there were moments I wanted to quit but I kept pushing and that was the best decision I ever made. I am so grateful for my luxuriant beauties and can’t wait to be of great service to my future beauties. 💜💜
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It did not start out easy at all, there were struggles. I had issues with sizing for dome caps. I decided to understand how to measure people’s circumference head size so they would fit my customer’s head just right. I researched thoroughly online and joined hair seminars on Instagram live.
Another struggle I went through was being scared people would not support me because I wasn’t well known. This led to me wanting to stand out and allow people to see what I had to offer and show them what I was all about.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Luxuriant Beauty story. Tell us more about the business.
My business involves making custom wigs, custom coloring services, wig installation, and providing beauty products.
I am proud of the growth my business has been through and is still going through. I am proud of my supporters for trusting in me and believing in my dream!
What sets me apart from other businesses is my mindset. I care about making someone look in the mirror and be overwhelmed with joy after choosing me to enhance their beauty than carelessly selling low-quality products for a quick come up.
I have even formed bonds with my clients and even established business associates in hopes of both growing together in the business world!
