Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheena Eizmendiz.
Sheena, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My journey began when I was 23 years old. Newly divorced, college student with two small children ages 4 years old and 10 months old. Working towards a psychology major, I became certified as a Clinical Hypnotherapist & Life Coach just 3 months after my divorce. No background in business and no family with any business knowledge, I decided one year later to become an entrepreneur and open up my own practice. It wasn’t easy. I made millions of mistakes, but from each mistake, I learned. I grew up every time I fell. At times, I thought I couldn’t get back up but I did.
Finally one day, I was able to see my vision come to full fruition. I owned a successful practice in South Miami with several employees, I was able to work with nearly 10 clients a day and hosted a weekly radio show at Y100 radio station. I was asked to film a reality show but I declined. The timing for that just wasn’t right at the time. I was at the top of my game when suddenly in 2012, I was indicted for a mortgage crime I did not commit. Charged for conspiracy I was sentenced to 21 months at a federal prison. I was stripped from everything I once owned and knew. Including the business I had built with my own hands. My kids were separated and went through the most harsh financial struggles while I was in prison. We lost everything.
However, I knew to rely on the tools I had used in my own practice for so many years. Once released, I was placed to live in a halfway house and take 4 buses to get to work. It was a humbling lesson. I was faced with the decision to either allow what had happened to me, destroy me or empower me. I chose the latter. I was empowered. I came back stronger. I bounced back in business and have since, become a serial entrepreneur and advocate for human rights. I’ve continued my passion for adventure, travel and serving others. Today, I am a better person because of it. I am not a victim of my circumstances, I wouldn’t change anything that happened. It has all made me see life and business with more clarity.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Smooth roads only exist in fairytales. The bumps are always part of the learning curve. The biggest challenge was to be a college student, divorced mom of 2 small children starting a business with no business knowledge. I can barely do math at the time or even manage my bank ledgers. Every step was a struggle. I fell many times. Looking back, that was a good thing. I believe that every struggle is a gift. You can learn to learn from your struggles and be accountable or you can continue to make them and be naive. I learned more from my failures than I did from my wins. It was all worth it.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I’d have to say that the list is long. There is no such thing as making it completely on your own. Every individual that has crossed my path, has played an essential role in who I am today as a mom, an entrepreneur and a woman. I have learned from my clients, children, parents, friends, coaches and relationships. They all have equally inspired me to live my life without limits. Their love and support has propelled me to do anything I want to do. Even when faced with the biggest challenges and obstacles in life, I know that I can do it if I set my mind to it.
