Meet Savannah Smith of Peach Room

Today we’d like to introduce you to Savannah Smith.

Savannah, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Peach Room has been a long time in the making. I remember riding in the back of a cab in New York City telling my friends how I wanted to start a pop-up disco back in 2017. My friend asked what I would call it, and I said “Peach Room! Like the lights at a disco.” Two years later, it’s so exciting that I’ve been able to bring this long-time vision to life for people to connect with.

I basically willed Peach Room into existence by creating an Instagram that showed my vision and then voraciously following people that I thought would be interested in a pop-up disco, including guests, DJs, and venues. My friends and I had a tough time finding venues at first, but I was lucky to meet some really great people through Instagram who were down to try this out with me, including the PR genius Camille Muratore from Alchemy Agency, Tillery James, and Jessica Who.

It has been so much fun to see how people really embraced the spirit of Peach Room and ran with it. The crowd is full of sequins, platforms, and sometimes cowboy hats, and I always love to see people laughing and just having totally authentic fun. I’m excited for the next few events that we’re lining up. Stay tuned for some over-the-top themes!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have definitely been some moments where it would have been easier to give up and just stay comfortable. I was turned down by a lot of venues. I had a lot of friends who didn’t understand that disco is still very much alive. I had a lot of Uber drivers who were like “oh, um, disco?? I’m more into house music.” I just kept plugging along until I met some people who could see what I was going for and wanted to make it happen with me.

Once we locked down the first event, I could barely sleep for the month leading up to it. I was up all night bidding on peach punch bowls on eBay and driving to Homestead to pick up ceramic leopards. I learned how to drive a U-Haul truck and how terrifying it is to change lanes. I learned that the beginning is a lot of schlepping to make it happen, especially if you’re creating something for the first time.

I was so relieved and exhausted after our launch. Other than being incredibly happy about the turnout, there was also a sense that the train was rolling and there was no stopping it. Now, the pressure is on to keep delivering great experiences and to keep improving. It’s the best feeling in the world when you can create an incredible night for people.

Please tell us about Peach Room. What should we know?
Peach Room is a roaming dance party where people can cut loose to some disco music and just feel absolutely free. Our goal is that people are having so much fun that they forget to post about it. Peach Room is inspired by the discos of the early 1970s, like The Gallery, which was basically a bunch of friends who loved disco getting together on Saturday nights and dancing until the sun came up. Partygoers can expect remixed disco sets, specialty 70s-inspired cocktails, and surprise performances to keep the night interesting!

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I’m one of those people who has always had a very active imagination and been full of ideas. But the truth is, I would let the ideas excite me and subconsciously decide that the real thing could never be as good as my daydreams. I envisioned Peach Room for a long time and was finally like, “ok, are you doing this or what??”. Once I actually took action on the idea, I was so surprised by how reality exceeded my expectations, and I’ve met so many amazing people who contributed beyond what I could imagine. Although my vision keeps me going, the key steps to launching Peach Room were letting go of perfection and just doing the thing!
