Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandy Bien-Aime.
Sandy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Born and raised in Miami, Florida. I am the 7th child of my parents and at the tender age of five, I was diagnosed with lupus. I went through some really tough times with lupus. At the age of 15, I lost my kidney function because of lupus. I started Hemodialysis at Miami children hospital.
Even as a lil girl, I enjoyed watching my mom and sisters cook. So I took Home Economics in 7th -9th grade. I also enjoy watching the Food Network. Food wasn’t my 1st love. I wanted to be a doctor an Obstetrician to be exact. I was in a Nursing program at school and after graduation went to TCI to continue my nursing program and boom, I received a transplant in January 25, 2003. I stayed in the hospital for a while because the 1st kidney failed because my body rejected it and I had a tube down my throat and I remember writing on a piece paper to my doctor at the time telling him please don’t give up on me. After that, I stayed in the hospital for a couple of weeks and on February 11th, 2003 I had a dream crying asking God why did He love me so much and I was awakened by my other Dr. telling me “guest what???” I’m like what she said “we found another kidney!!!” I was sooo happy and the other Dr. I told to tell me ran in the room like “guess what” I said I got a kidney and with a sad face he said who told you!!! I wanted to be the one who told you lol but I was so excited anyway. The next morning I was transplanted with my 2nd kidney.
Weeks later, I went home and months later, I went back to TCI and finished my education graduated and started working at a Clinic and life seemed good. Unfortunately, that kidney on lasted three years because working at the clinic eventually got me sick and my body rejected the kidney transplant again. My doctor at the time told me that, unfortunately the medical field wasn’t for me. So now I’m thinking okkkk what’s next? I went back to hemodialysis and for the next six years, I try to figure out what should I do. Throughout the years I’ve always been cooking for family and family functions. I know business was always in me because as a child, I use to sell soda, chips at my mom’s house, so I would sell lil things here and there. I went on a trip with my sister to Iowa and three days into the trip while on dialysis, I received a phone call from the transplant team stating that they had another transplant for me. You have to understand that day I was feeling sooo down I was on the dialysis machine cramping. Legs cramping arms cramping literally in tears from pain and to receive the news that all this was finished omg I cried even more. I just thanked God and my sister picked me up and I was put on the next flight back to Miami. Early that morning November 29, 2012 I got my 3rd transplant. Five years later, to sum up everything I decided to start selling food. Healthy food for people and that’s how Yummies came about. I cooked meals for Keto diet, regular diet and whatever my customer ask me to cook for them. I’ve been catering here and there and as long as my body allows me to work, I do what I can.
Has it been a smooth road?
Yes of course there has been both smooth roads and struggles. My smooth roads is when I’m in the kitchen creating meals or what I’ve seen on YouTube or even the cooking network and creating masterpieces on a plate. My struggle is when lupus what’s to start disrespecting me and flaring up at the wrong times on me. But through it all, I still push through because complaining isn’t an option.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Yummies Meal Prep & Catering – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Yummies is a home base business and I cook with love. I make keto meals, Vegetarian meals and regular meals. I also make fresh juices and smoothies. I’m proud that I can help people achieve their goals in weight loss or weight gain. What sets me apart from others is that I make sure love is poured out in every meal I sent out and making sure my customers are Satisfied with every bite they take.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like best about my city is that we are a diverse group of people. Of course, the least thing I dislike is our crime rates. I wish we could just love a little more. Life is so short. At times we don’t understand the value of life.
