Meet Robert Poliszuk of PhysioLogix Physical Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Poliszuk.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2017, I graduated from the University of Miami Doctor of Physical Therapy program. I always promised myself that I would provide the highest level of care possible to my clientele as I have seen firsthand the potential of quality PT care and how that can change a patient’s life.

My first job was at a crowded “mill” PT clinic that focused heavily on volume. This experience was awful. I would regularly have three to four patients an hour. There was no way in which I could ever really put my knowledge base into play with any particular patient because I would have two to three others waiting for me to help them. The whole experience was leading to career burnout. I knew there had to be something better.

This is the first step towards my decision to create PhysioLogix. I have always believed that you can grow from good and bad experiences, and this was a defining moment in my journey as a professional. In mid-2018, I created a mobile PT clinic with the sole focus of one-on-one patient care. Since then, PhysioLogix has added care for Medicare beneficiaries, personal training services and set up a physical location inside of a 10k square foot gym to better reach those who would like to use some serious equipment in their rehab plan of care.

The whole experience has been very rewarding as I have been able to treat the way I would like, one-on-one, with a concentration on the exact type of clientele that I feel would be the best fit. This is a win-win for both me and the client as the greater the goals of the practitioner and the patient align, the greater the outcome.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have a good friend who says that half of the fun of owning a business is getting shafted by others. He says it is a great learning opportunity, and I eventually learned for myself too, I couldn’t agree with him anymore. From the day I started, there have been bumps in the road.

Almost immediately up registering my LLC, I had the opportunity to work with NFL athletes and NCAA draft prospects in a training facility in Miami. This was an awesome opportunity from a clinical standpoint, but I ended up doing more work for the dreams of the gym owner and the athletes with almost no compensation. Lesson number one: don’t work with people who don’t value your service (even if they have million-dollar contracts)!

The job itself also comes with a multitude of struggles in the form of denials and cancellations. Running a mobile business means driving all over the place to meet the demands of various clients and potential business partners all over. I cannot tell you the amount of times I have had meetings totally forgotten, blown off, or been ignored in the past two years.

Despite these incidents, I know not to let them change how I treat others in the future. If anything, I have grown from them and have adjusted my strategies in working with others to greater facilitate reductions in wasted time and missed connections.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am the owner and lead physical therapist at PhysioLogix Sports Physical Therapy. At PhysioLogix we specialize in getting our clientele back to 110%, doing the activities they love without needing unnecessary surgeries or drugs. Like I mentioned earlier, this business was created in response to the general decline in quality of care seen at some big box clinics out in the Miami region. From the day PhysioLogix was opened, I vowed to keep as far away from the antiquated crowded clinic model as possible, providing the highest quality one-on-one care to patients experiencing a variety of orthopedic conditions from a state of the art facility or the comfort of their own home.

What were you like growing up?
I grew up the “oops” child with two older sisters, so my parents were always more relaxed with parenting me (my mom had me at 42). I attribute this to why I am so different from all of them. I always had a focus on health and wellness growing up, playing football and participating in afterschool activities. I can distinctly remember my dad complaining that the house smelled like chicken breast all of the time. I personally preferred that to the hotdogs he was serving up nightly.

In general, I feel that I was either ‘trying’ to make jokes, lighten the mood, or a butt of the joke with almost all family interactions. I also grew up feeling relatively empathetic, noticing when people were sad or mad were important to me as I don’t enjoy when others are suffering in my presence. This, combined with having a relatively loudmouth family, made me the right amount of extrovert that I knew I wanted to work in a relatively “social” field where I could help a lot of people!
