Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Egert.
Robert started working at Mario the Baker as a pizza maker then went away to college up in Gainesville. He was away for about six months, and got a job a BBQ restaurant as a prep cook. Within four months, he was promoted to kitchen manager. As kitchen manager, he got his first taste of catering because the summers up in Gainesville were slow. Robert and the other kitchen managers started doing summer camp lunches for kids. After that, Robert transferred to FIU and enrolled in the hospitality management program.
At that point, John from John the Baker was ready to leave his uncle’s business, Mario the Baker and Robert helped him open John the Baker right here in Pembroke Pines (all while finishing up at FIU). His plan was to help him open up for six months and then go work for a hotel chain. But he wound up staying for 11-years as the general manager. The business always did a little catering with Italian food. But Robert started doing school lunches out of John the Baker’s kitchen and kept growing. About three years after that, he started doing corporate catering will all types of cuisine.
At that point when corporate catering took off, he sold-off the school lunch program – and managed the restaurant and corporate catering.
In 2007 Robert opened Exquisite catering. He closed out his first year doing about $400,000 in business. He closed out 2017 (10 years later) doing a little over $8 million in business and has 49 full-time employees.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a smooth road considering how big he’s grown over the years. Robert says, he still likes to think of his business like the mom and pop company he started. But based on the sheer size and success of the company, it can’t be run like that.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Exquisite Catering By Robert – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Exquisite Catering By Robert opened in 2007, and quickly grew to become one of South Florida’s most renowned corporate catering companies. They provide custom catering for breakfast and lunch meetings, company events, fundraisers and more. The company is also well known for its boutique-style catering and event planning for weddings, bridal showers, bar and bat mitzvahs, sweet sixteen’s and galas. The team at Exquisite Catering also offers menus for those with dietary restrictions including a kosher menu, gluten free, sugar free and dairy free.
Exquisite Catering differs from many other companies in the area because they do a lot for the community – always involved in charity events and fundraisers. The company participates in Light the Night Walk, Chron’s and Colitis Foundation walks and Habitat for Humanity programs – just to name a few. For the ninth year in the row, the company is also participating in the Break Spot program which offers free breakfast, snacks and lunches to kids under 18 at more than 1,000 camp sites around the tri-county area. This year, they will be providing meals to 240 camp sites around the tri-county area.
Exquisite Catering by Robert is different from many of the other companies out there because EVERYTHING is made from scratch from the salad dressing to the baked goods. They have clients who call specifically for their cookie platters because they love their recipes.
