Meet Rob Herrera of Metric Films in Aventura

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob Herrera.

Rob, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born and raised in South Florida and although I have had stints in other places, including Europe, I always found myself coming back to Miami.

Working in the TV industry for 15 years, which I found rather soulless, I decided to take my passion for filmmaking and re direct it towards Weddings.

Thinking that it was just another way of paying the bills and getting my filmmaking fix, I discovered the satisfaction of making couples and their families happy, re-living their special day through my films.

Nothing brings me more joy with what I do, than a brides call or text letting me know how much it touched everyone. If it brings the groom to tears, it’s a plus.

Throughout our growth as a production company, we have now ventured into producing promotional work and commercials.

We are grateful to be living in such a beautiful city and can’t wait to see what opportunities Miami presents to us next.

Has it been a smooth road?
Like everything in life, the production industry can be a roller coaster. It hasn’t been easy, but the road, and its experiences have been rewarding.

The struggle in weddings is finding the right people you can trust to help you. After all, couples are placing all of their trust on you to film one of their biggest life events. That’s not something we take lightly.

The reality is that shooting weddings is not something you learn how to do in a day.

Weddings hardly ever go as planned. That’s not a bad thing when you have professionals that know how to adapt, but it can be disastrous when you hire the inexperienced vendor because he was cheaper.

This is a point I stress to brides when they tend to lean more towards price than to quality. You can have the cheaper newcomer or even cousin Emilio shoot your wedding, but you might get something you will cry about later, and not because you were nostalgic.

Our goal is to produce films that will stand the test of time, and that takes experience way over skill and talent. Luckily, we are blessed with skillful and talented people as well.

My philosophy is that you’re only as good as the people you surround yourself with, and I thank God everyday that He has placed good people in my path.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Metric Films story. Tell us more about the business.
Wedding day filmmaking is what my company specializes in but really overall productions.

Besides the great people we have with metric films, I feel that what sets us apart is the passion for storytelling and having it come through in the final product.

I’m not there to shoot video, to document your wedding. If that’s what a bride wants I kindly direct her to other vendors. What we do at Metric is create your film, we tell your story in short form filmmaking. I want to know how the couple met. When did you know they were the one? Where were you when he proposed?

When you hire Metric it’s because you want us to tell your story using your wedding day.

With every project we are inspired to do better than the last. The passion and the vision we bring, is what I feel separates metric films from others.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The wedding film industry is going through exciting changes with companies like my own coming from outside production industries, bringing new ideas and techniques

With rising new technologies in production, who’s to say what trends are next.
