Meet Rebekka Mairena of The Bekks Review in Coral Gables

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebekka Mairena.

Rebekka, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Ever since I can remember, I’ve always had a love for food. My parents told me that even as a baby I never wanted baby food but instead wanted grown-up food. I can now understand why grown-up food is so much tastier! You may have heard of the five love languages, well there is a sixth and that is called “food”. Everyone that knows me, can attest that my love language is food. I love going to new restaurants and letting my taste buds try all the various flavors and textures. I am very particular with the service and atmosphere of a restaurant as it can either add or take away from your experience. I am also very known for modifying a plate according to my preference or sometimes even creating a whole new item, not on the menu. Because of all of this, my family and friends have always encouraged me to begin my food blog, hence “The Bekks Review” was born.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As in any business endeavor, one of the biggest obstacles to overcome is the fear of failing. There are thousands of food and travel blogs across various social media platforms that standing out can be very overwhelming. However, I decided to put my faith in God and overcome this fear and launched The Bekks Review. Maintaining a successful blog requires a lot of time, effort and patience. Initially, it is easy to get discouraged as the results aren’t as clear as you’d hope. There were several times where I wouldn’t get as many likes or followers as I was expecting. However, at the end of the day, I know that hard works pays off and in due time, I will reap the harvests of my labor.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Bekks Review story. Tell us more about it.
My blog is not only about food but also includes my travel experiences. From a very young age, I have traveled and always loved the excitement of reaching a new destination. The Bekks Review is a blog that reviews my personal experiences at restaurants, cafes, hotels, airlines, etc. My goal is to help people find the best experience by giving them an honest review on product, quality of service, ambiance and overall feel and experience. When reviewing my experiences, I break down my review into categories and use stars to rate each one. My posts also include a section called “Bekks Thoughts”, and this is where I share more detailed facts about my personal experience.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least about our city?
Miami is such a wonderful city for food bloggers as there are so many different types of restaurants offering a wide range of tastes and flavors. I truly enjoy the excitement of visiting a new location for the first time and being able to share my experiences with my followers. My favorite area to eat is in Coral Gables! I love the variety of restaurants and the fact that it is a very walkable area that is also family-friendly. As far as dislikes, I would definitely have to say the traffic and commute times.
