Randy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As we age, most of us start to experience hair loss, I was no exception. When I first realized my hair was getting thin, I looked at my father and older brothers. Wow – I was not ready to lose my hair and my confidence. Upon visiting a laser hair loss clinic, I was introduced the Low-Level Laser Therapy. It worked great to reduce the hair loss, and help grow back a significant percentage of my hair. However, the treatment was very inconvenient, requiring 2-3 visits to the clinic per week. We set off to develop a portable, convenient solution that could be used in the privacy of your home. Thus HairMax was born. Seventeen years later, over a million devices sold, we continue on our journey to innovate low-level laser devices through clinical research and FDA accreditation. Our company goal has always been to develop drug-free alternatives to enrich the lives of men and women suffering hair loss and other ailments.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Achieving FDA Clearance on a medical device is not an easy task. Our first clinical study showed tremendous hair growth but did not meet the requirements of the FDA, the study did not contain a sham (placebo) device. Even after our first FDA Clearance, it was an uphill battle to convince the doctors to recognize this technology as an alternative to drugs. We now have 7 clinical studies and 7 FDA Clearances and the market is starting to accept this technology.

What were you like growing up? Personality wise, interest wise, etc.
Camping. Growing up we had a pop-up camper that we towed all over the country. My favorite spot was a place just north of Vero Beach. We would spend many of our summers there, fishing, clamming, surfing and being with family and friends.
