Today we’d like to introduce you to Rafael Avalos.
Hi Rafael, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I came to visit my sister here, who had just moved with her boyfriend, almost seven years ago. Almost immediately upon arrival, I was blessed to be involved in the industry in which I’m most passionate about – hospitality. Through the many people I’ve been fortunate to serve I’ve been exposed to cultures and conversations from all over the world that I never expected to. These experiences made it clear to me that I wanted to serve them, and opened my eyes that the next step for me would be serving amazing people my own creations.
Fast forward a few years, my then-fiancée and I aligned our goals to focus on building a brand – ReDefine Juices. He helped unlock my potential by creating a confidence in me that hadn’t been realized yet. Together, we conceptualized ReDefine as a collective that on the surface makes juices, but at its core helps people redefine their lives and intentions through a healthy and welcoming community. As Latinos, it is in our blood to be empathetic and passionate, and we embody these character traits through our juices.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Right as our brand was starting to take off, we, personally and professionally, decided to no longer be together and a tremendous blow raised many questions and concerns. We had imagined everything together – our future, our ups and downs, our business, our family, and everything in between. All of a sudden, this dream needed to Redefine our own ways, we were faced with an existential crisis of what do next with our baby, Redefine Juices. We spoke at length and decided that it was best for us to continue to pursue what used to be our dream, as my dream. Now, I look back on this unexpected chasm with gratitude towards him and our empire created and how our journey led me to where I am today. When such a searing rift is felt, we can either crawl up and let it consume us, or allow ourselves to feel it all and then Redefine who we are.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve always been a lover of the art of dance. I connect with humanity on a deeper wavelength when I’m dancing. I don’t just live, I dance through life humbly aware of the present and all of her gifts. Now with Redefine, I see my journey as a dance, and I’m leading the choreography. I have the supreme pleasure of creating, building, dreaming, and serving my customers. They are in intrinsically woven into this dance with me.
One of the most powerful things for me is a smile, and that could be the best feedback I always get. Found this philosophy and made it mine:
“It is rest to the weary, daylight to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad, and Nature’s best antidote for trouble. It enriches those who receive, without impoverishing those who give.
Me being able to see my people enjoying themselves and smiling, keeps me going. That tells me everything is working out as it should. I look at everyone as if they are a miracle. Every morning I decide to smile to the world and the world will smile back.
There is something special that connects me with the center or the earth which help me to walk wisely. I think life has taught me I am not always in control and that is full of experiences and lessons, and pain. But at the same time has also shown me love, beauty, wonder, possibility, and new beginnings. That makes me who I am
What do you think about happiness?
Those most important thing to me in this world is my family. That is my core, my everything, my first support, and my right hand. ALWAYS. My seek of success is for me to do whatever is in my hands to protect and support them. Traveling is one of my favorite activities. From the fact of flying up in the skies to being surrounded by all kind of people and history. Trying different types of food is my always go-to since I love eating. But never seafood
Love taking pictures so the memories will last forever.
The calm of the ocean while a sunset and looking to the stars, just feeling the connection with the universe.
Love walking in the beach with a smile in my thinking and face, in my head I could only thing how blessed I am.
