Meet Rachel Mautner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Mautner.

Hi Rachel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I launched my interior design studio, Rachel Mautner Interior Design, at 19 years old in Chicago, Illinois. My first project was a basement on the far northwest side. A few referrals later, I began designing multi-million dollar homes throughout some of Chicago’s most desirable neighborhoods. Now 26, I’ve been servicing clients on a national scale for over five years and beginning to dive into the commercial sector of design.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Entrepreneurship is not linear. A lot of it is trial and error. Learning from your mistakes by simply trying is how you will better navigate your industry.

Some things I have learned along that way is time management, management of client expectations, communication, finding a fee structure that is fair to myself and the client, invoicing, and branding, to name a few.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Rachel Mautner Interior Design, RMID, is a boutique residential interior design studio. We take great pride in creating homes that are not only aesthetically pleasing but are tailored to the client’s day-to-day living. We are detail-oriented and understand that the design processes do not stop at the delivery of the design. We work closely with our contractors and vendors to create an unmatched concierge level of service to our clients.

What’s next?
More recently, I’ve been brainstorming new goals. I’d like to open an office, hire a small staff of designers who are truly passionate about interior design, and potentially design a furniture line. I’m thinking BIG.

Coming up, I’m planning on photographing a lake house project that was completed back in 2020. A new magazine spread is set to hit newsstands in a few short weeks, and currently working closely with someone behind the scenes on building a new presence on social media.
