Today we’d like to introduce you to O’Shane Ellis.
O’Shane has been exposed to the world of hospitality and tourism management for a decade. He has immersed himself significantly in the tourism sector and has been instrumental in transforming operations at world-renowned hotels and other tourist destinations. O’Shane has operated in several positions such as Recreations and Entertainment Manager, Restaurant Manager, Operations Manager, Group Entertainment & Events Manager as well as Assistant General Manager.
O’Shane started his professional career working at Hedonism 3 as an Entertainment Coordinator where he moved on to the Sales Department as Online Sales Coordinator, after which he moved on to the Sandals resorts hotel chain at Beaches Ocho Rios as an Entertainment Coordinator where he then moved on to the Sales Department as Jr. Sales Executive.
O’Shane was chosen for a pilot program for the new way of Entertainment and was then sent to Sandals Whitehouse. After seven months of working at Sandals Whitehouse as a Senior Guest Activities Coordinator, O’Shane was promoted to Recreations and Activities Manager at Sandals Ocho Rios. O’Shane then decided it was time to move on and took up an offer in Kingston at the prestigious Spanish Court Hotel as a Restaurant Manager.
While working at Spanish Court Hotel, he was head hunted to work at Ribbiz Ultra Lounge as the Assistant General Manager where he was tasked to upgrade the operations and customer service of the business. This he did for a successful period, after which he was then head hunted to work at Margaritaville Caribbean Ltd as Talent and Promotions Manager. O’Shane worked in this post for a 3-month period, where he was then promoted as the Group Entertainment and Events Manager for all the Jamaican properties. His reign came to an end after serving for 2 years where he was head hunted to work as Operations Manager for the iconic Rick’s Cafe in Negril. O’Shane’ s task was to once again upgrade the Customer service of the business while ensuring that proper training was in place for the Staff. He also had to ensure that proper policies and procedures were in place to manage the business effectively. After spending almost two years at Rick’s Café, O’Shane was once again head hunted to the newly renovated Joy Spence Appleton Estate Rum Experience where he is now serving as the General Manager.
O’Shane can be described as someone who epitomizes what it means to have fun. Embodying this Behaviour allows for the creation of an energetic and rewarding work environment. He enjoys socializing and hopes to sky dive shortly.
Has it been a smooth road?
The journey has been hills and valleys. It was not always easy and it was not always fun. There were days when I did not want to get up out of bed or show up but then I remember my High School motto which I live by, Fortis Cadere Cedere Non Potest (The Brave may fall but never yield).
Some of the challenges that I’ve faced were
– Self doubt. Not thinking I could get it done
– Having to compete against other companies that we’re more established and more experienced
