Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Wyatt.
Hi Nicole, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My professional career in medicine begin in the Emergency department and postoperative care unit at the University of Miami hospital. I have worked at the University of Miami for ten years as a clinician and educator in addition to completing my undergraduate and graduate education at the University of Miami. To me, the University of Miami is my second home. My dream as a nurse practitioner was to continue my passion in emergency medicine and critical care for the duration of my career. Amidst The chaos of the emergency room, I felt most at ease and in control. In 2017, while on vacation, I had shattered my leg in a traumatic snowboarding injury and was left unable to walk for the greater portion of a year. Three surgeries later, I still found myself unable to work in a fast-paced environment such as the emergency department. It was then that I decided to pursue a long-deferred passion adventuring into the aesthetic industry.
At the time, it was highly competitive and difficult to get a foot in the door. Luckily, I was able to leverage my emergency management skills along with my comfort in performing procedures to learn a new skillset and pave a new professional path for myself. As the years went by, more and more I grew to love this new industry and my passion for learning new techniques and skills only Intensified. I was offered an opportunity with a well-established aesthetics fellowship program to become anesthetic instructor and educator for other medical professionals. This allowed me the opportunity to collaborate with some of the leading professionals in the industry, as well as share knowledge and grow with other practitioners who are interested in venturing into the profession.
After three years, I finally felt ready to embark upon opening my own practice where I could express my creativity and truly apply my passion to build upon this incredible industry. I grew to appreciate the importance of restoring patients Self-esteem and self-image. It seemed as though a roller coaster of events were required to put me in the right position to put me on the right path to achieve my true destiny. I have learned that there is a stigma associated with cosmetic procedures and A belief that one should be happy with themselves as they are. Overtime, I have come to appreciate that the vast majority of my patients love themselves as they are, and it is because of their love for themselves they aspire to be the best version of themselves, to put pride, effort, and take great care of the vessels they will spend their life in. My goal for the future, not just professionally for myself but for the industry, is to elevate the educational standards of this industry. To formalize its educational platforms and to improve upon the quality and standardization of how professionals are able to transition into this industry and succeed not only for themselves but for their patient’s outcomes.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Venturing into aesthetics is not an easy route. It requires a lot of ambition, self-discipline, and more self-learning than I have experienced in any other specialty. Many of the courses offered are weekend certificate courses that are taught by a variety of levels of expertise. It is the responsibility of the individual to seek out the best quality information and education available and to continuously seek to learn the latest techniques, protocols, safety measures and above all how to achieve the most effective results. It is not as simple as enrolling in a university comprising of vetted specialists are paid to teach a well-rounded curriculum that has been evaluated and has the appropriate oversight to ensure that the latest research and nothing but evidence-based practices are taught. I almost like to explain to students that this is the wild west of medicine and that you live and die by your own hand. The burden of responsibility remains in your hands to ensure that you are doing right by your patients. There is a trend in this industry for even the most novice providers to self proclaim themselves as master injectors and charge for their weekend training courses that merely skim the surface of this industry. Briefly skimming over the complications and dangers and downplaying the required safety measures in order to protect not only the patient but the practitioner’s license.
We’ve been impressed with Miami Aesthetic Specialists, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I created Miami Aesthetic Specialists because I am passionate about education not only for patients but for other providers. In my practice, I see and treat patients not only for cosmetic procedures but for a variety of other health concerns (given my emergency medicine background). I have a passion for education and I have been teaching for the university of Miami in the nursing program as well as teaching Aesthetic procedures to other clinicians for the past three years. Opening my own practice allowed me to ensure that nothing but the best evidence-based medicine and quality standards were being met. This industry is known to be lucrative and it is often abused for that purpose. The people who pay the price tend to be the patients or the naive providers who assumed that Integrity and medicine are always intertwined.
At Miami Aesthetic Specialists, patients and providers receive nothing but honesty, safety, and integrity. It is what we value most. We aim to achieve exceptional results, to protect our patients and ensure their safety and ensure that they are educated and knowledgeable about the procedures that they are having done. We do not sell to our patients, the dollar is not the bottom line. If a patient is not a good candidate for a procedure or if we believe a procedure is not warranted, we openly and honestly Discuss with our patients. We are in this for the long-haul. It is more important to me that my patients trust my clinical judgement and have a long lasting relationship with me rather than to sell them a syringe or a treatment that they won’t necessarily benefit from.
What’s next?
My goal is to grow and expand Miami Aesthetic Specialists. I would also like to expand my educational platform in aesthetic Medicine and help to create a Formal educational platform at the postgraduate level at the University of Miami. Very often, clinicians reach out to me and ask me for my advice on what are the best most respectable training programs for clinicians looking to embark upon this aesthetic journey. I feel passionate that rather than having to choose between a weekend course in a hotel conference room, we could create something much more powerful and meaningful. I would love to Formulate a post-graduate Fellowship program that is fact and accredited by a reputable university so that providers can learn the industry and graduate knowing that they have the skills to help their patients in the safest and most effective way possible.
