Today we’d like to introduce you to Neffy Ford.
Neffy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, I’ve always known that I was going to be successful because of my intelligence, resilience, and ambition but I just didn’t know how exactly. I was always so focused on school because I naturally excelled in the academic world so I didn’t think to put any time into exploring my other options. It took me some time to figure out what I wanted to do but with the experience from working closely with my boyfriend’s business, the support from my close family and friends, and the confidence that I was able to build in myself over time, I was able to birth House of Hilani in May of 2020. My plan never included launching my business during a global pandemic but I’m truly grateful that I decided to launch when I did because we’re now in September of 2020, COVID is still present and Hilani is doing great! Despite these tough times that we are all facing, you will always come out on top when you decide to give life all you’ve got.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting, launching, and working on my business has probably been one of the most challenging things that I’ve ever done in my life. I’ve started and stopped working on my business multiple times before I finally found the pace that was perfect for me.
Although Hilani was launched in May of 2020, it has been in the works since about August of 2018. During this time, I was working full time and I was in college full time working towards my Nursing degree. I was also constantly reviewing samples of designs that were made to make sure that the sizing, material, etc. was as perfect as it could be. It wasn’t until after I graduated in December of 2019 that I was able to use every extra minute that I had in my day to perfect my business plan. There have been a lot of times where I’ve felt overwhelmed and stagnant but with the Grace of God, I was able to push through and get things done.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about House of Hilani – what should we know?
House of Hilani is a luxury women apparel brand that specializes in making custom apparel that is guaranteed to make a woman feel like a reflection of perfection. Our vision is to make apparel to accommodate women of all shapes, sizes, and colors to fit every season.
Right now, Hilani is known for our sexy swimsuits, cover-up, and two-piece sets that the ladies can either dress up for a summer night out with the girls or dress down for a summer day at the beach or pool. We are also known for our super cute and girly touch when it comes to our packaging and branding. I am most proud of our drive to expand and the level of professionalism that we continue to hold ourselves to. We are a black WOMAN owned business that prides ourselves on great customer service, quality products, and customer loyalty and we believe that is what sets us apart from many other companies.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I believe that my faith in God, my resilience, my generosity, my passion, and my ability to learn then adapt in every situation that I’ve ever been in has contributed the most to my success.
