Meet Natalie Rey of Natalie Rey Photography in Miami-Dade

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Rey.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born in Miami, Florida in 1998. I’ve lived here up until I left to go to college. Throughout my childhood, I’ve been blessed to travel to many countries outside of the US, including Argentina which is where my entire family is from. Traveling has definitely played a role in my interest in photography. In my last year of high school, I started by taking pictures of my sister, dad, and friends back home. During this time, I traveled to Hawaii and my passion for photography deepened as I was there. The following year, I moved to New York City to study dance at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Photography was always an interest to me while I was in NY, but I never imagined myself pursuing a career in this field. In my second year of college, my interests completely shifted and I became pretty invested in this art form. I decided to change my major from dance to photography and I moved back home to study at the University of Miami. Since moving back, I’ve been working hard to develop my own brand. I’ve had the opportunity to work with a modeling agency, MP Management, and at a fashion boutique as a photographer for almost a year now. These jobs have helped me develop the passion for fashion and editorial photography that was already in me.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wouldn’t say it has been a smooth road. When you’re a photographer or a creative artist in this industry, especially if you’re just starting out, people will take advantage of you. There is probably no photographer out there that hasn’t had trouble with people that try to get their photos for free. Sadly, today some people still don’t take photography as a serious job and take it for granted. It’s up to us to have patience and take a stand to make sure people understand that this is a profession. One mistake I’ve made was not having signed contracts with my very first clients. I realized through experience that it’s key to have an initial agreement to help avoid problems that may come up from miscommunication.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Natalie Rey Photography – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I specialize in fashion and editorial photography. I also do dance and portrait photography. I’m known for my distinctive conceptual/weird style in my shoots, regardless of the type of photography I’m doing. This definitely sets me apart from others. I’m most proud of what I have been able to accomplish in my career this past year. I got published in a fashion magazine based in the UK and I’ve been working with various models that are big in the industry.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My near-future plans are to move to either LA or Europe after I graduate to pursue fashion and editorial photography. I plan to keep working with models and continue getting my work published in fashion magazines. I want to be able to only work with projects that match my brand and reflect my values and visions.

My long term plans would be to be able to only do projects that I’m passionate about while growing my brand as well. One of my long term goals is to be published in big magazines such as Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar.
