Today we’d like to introduce you to Moriel Hoffman.
Moriel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are Today?
I was born in Miami, Florida, and have spent my entire life in South Florida. Growing up, I always knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur; I just didn’t realize how much work and sacrifice would take place. My father inspired me. He immigrated from Israel in 1987 after completing his military service, coming to this country with little to nothing and built himself from the ground up. I owe my success to his teachings and wisdom.
At the age of 22, I left the corporate sector and pursued a new challenge in the moving and storage industry. I was offered an opportunity to partner with my childhood best friend, Roy. I quickly adapted to my new role in the company by implementing new guidelines and strategies to improve the customer experience. To provide the highest quality and care, I knew we needed to take a client-centered approach to relocations. Moving is known to be a skeptical and shady industry, and I am always looking to challenge the odds. I wanted to bring light to the relocation process. Roy and I worked very hard to have one of the largest moving and storage companies in South Florida. Today, I am proud to say we service over 1000 customers annually and proudly staff 30 full-time employees.
Being a woman in a primarily male-dominated industry, I worked vigorously to have a reputation for myself as one of the most predominant and successful women in this moving business. Throughout the country, many other companies are familiar with our brand, and we are glad to offer guidance and assistance to many forthcoming moving companies regularly. My real passion project is continuing education and continuous re-training to raise the bar higher and higher for my employees and customers. During my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and playing the piano. I also received a Business Finance degree from the Florida International University in Miami and continue to maintain an active pursuit for my MBA in Finance and Entrepreneurship.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Along the way, many have inspired my success, one in particular, A true friend who, unfortunately, is no longer with us. Sam Gargir, He plays a huge factor in my endless pursuit to the top. He inspired me to be the most achieving and know no boundaries, and in his memory, I bring that mentality to the table every day.
Additionally, my parents deserve the credit; They taught me how to be humble, remain ambitious, give and receive, live, and learn. They are truly amazing parents, and I am beyond lucky to be there, daughter.
And last but not least, Roy, My business partner, and childhood best friend. He has provided an immense amount of guidance and support. He has always stood by my ideas and decisions and motivated me to reach areas I never believed were possible. I am genuinely proud and blessed to have a partner who remains focused on the same goals and looks towards the future together as business partners.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The first time I saw a struggle was in 2008, I was sixteen years old when the recession hit. I realized how stressed my parents were and got a job. From that day on, I never stopped working. From there, I went to college full-time and got a full-time job because my parents did not have the means to help me pay for school. While many of my friends enjoyed the “college life,” I was required to work over 40-60 hours a week to ensure I could pay all bills and tuition. I graduated in 2014 from Florida International University with honors and with no loan debt. Although it was a struggle through school, I was prepared for my new reality entering the real world of business.
Overall, there have been up’s and down’s, The road to success is never a paved smooth roadway; do not be fooled. It is an immense responsibility running a business, especially when you care for that business and its employees. Over the years of working at Solomon & Son’s, I have learned much about myself as an individual. Understanding the challenges and tribulations will always exist; they are a part of any company. The matter of how you deal with them is what sets you apart from the rest. This valuable lesson is something that has taken me years of trial and error to lockdown. Today knowing this valuable lesson, the future should be more accessible than my past.
