Meet Monique Corker (Coach Mo) of Girl Bee You in Dade County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Corker.

Coach Mo was born in Youngstown, Ohio and was moved to North Florida at the age of one where she was raised in Gainesville, Florida. Coach Mo received her Associates Degree from Santa Fe College. Coach Mo is currently enrolled in FIU and will be a graduate for the class of 2019 as she obtains her bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies. She has a goal of receiving her masters once this is accomplished.

Coach Mo understands first-hand what pain, rejection and being lost at a young age can do to our youth, especially our girls. She focused on turning her pain into her purpose by creating a life-changing flow of programs under her leadership. What turned into mini-talks and discussions created Girl Bee You in 2007. Coach Mo is the founder of Girl Bee You Empowerment, a 501 C 3 organization with a dedicated amount of programs designed for girls to help them become their greatest version of themselves. She helps young girls discover the three P’s in the beehive: PASSION, PRINCIPLES, AND PERSONA.  Girl Bee You mission statement is to provide empowerment, economic and educational life skills to help girls become their greatest version of themselves.  Workshops include stress management, human trafficking, social media, public speaking, financial literacy, beauty, nutrition, career development and many more listed on our website.

Coach Mo is a believer that once you can understand your passion, your principles will be aligned to give you the persona to accomplish and overcome roadblocks.

Coach Mo is a businesswoman with over nineteen years in the financial industry. She is an author with two published books, one co-authored by her daughter. She is a certified life coach, an esteemed poet and a phenomenal speaker with a story. She is excited to be releasing her upcoming third book called, Corporate Buzz for Girls like Us and her 4th book in the works called, Eyes of Rejection. Both books are formatted with Coach Mo’s ability to be transparent and real with her audience. She speaks of her roadblocks in corporate America and is releasing her pain of rejection as growing up fatherless.

Coach Mo, AKA the Queen Bee of Youth Empowerment earned this name through her many transparent conversations with young girls. Coach Mo connects with her youth participants on a level that promotes a safe talk about it environment. Coach Mo is dedicated to helping girls learn to invest in themselves first. After receiving feedback from various workshops and speaking engagements, Coach Mo was asked does she help women? This opened a new avenue that Coach Mo embraced which has now broadened her original focus of girls ages 10-17 only to now include her baby bees (ages 5-9) and her Queen Bees (ages 18 & up). The conversations are the same as she discovered the girl is in us no matter our age.

Coach Mo’s Achievements:

CERTIFIED LIFE COACH, FINANCIAL EDUCATOR, CURRICULUM DEVELOPER.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER, MENTOR, MOTHER, WIFE, FRIEND, and SUPPORTER.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Coach Mo believes there is no such thing as an easy road. Roads are not created for everyone equally which can cause the journey to become difficult for some or easy for others. I have faced a number of challenges when it comes to being a Coach and a community leader along with my other roles in life. I have struggled with rejection, self-esteem issues, lack of accomplishment and many more that in return became the foundation of the programs presented at Girl Bee You workshops.

Overcoming bad bosses, jealousy, and social media are just some of the challenges that I have personally faced along the way. I have had the opportunity to work under great leadership and then I have been faced to survive for my paycheck under horrible management. Notice I call them two different titles. You either have worked under leaders or managers and they are very different. I have dealt with jealousy of my upward movement in companies. How did she get promoted? I have also struggled with being over 40 and keeping up with social media demands.

Being rejected as a girl with my stepfather denying me and never adopting me and my biological father never around, was the beginning of my source of pain, depression, anxiety, stress, and many other identity issues. As I dealt with some of these obstacles, some of them started to take a toll on my mind and body. I wasn’t myself, I was lost and was headed on a path of destruction. My workshops speak to what worked for me and what didn’t. I’m a strong advocate for prevention is better than intervention and I’m constantly battling a society that believes in problems healing themselves or they believe they will go away or she will grow out of it.

Please tell us about Girl Bee You.
Girl Bee You Empowerment is here to become a movement and not a moment in the hearts of every girl. Our foundation is centered around becoming greater than what we could have ever imagined. I want the hearts of our girls to believe again in themselves, to possess discernment when things look wrong and be unapologetically able to remove toxins from their life.

Girl Bee You specializes in self-discovery, self-care, awareness of economical issues directly impacting girls. We are talking about the taboo talks that everyone else frowns on.

I’m extremely proud when I get feedback from our girls that reflects not only did they enjoy the workshops, but they are retaining and sharing the information with others. I want our girls to leave empowered and live a Girl Bee You Lifestyle of empowering others and being greater than what they ever imagined.

Transparency sets me apart from others. We all may share a common goal, but my approach is different because I come with the receipts and the accomplishments to show our girls a different path of life. People often ask why do I call myself Coach Mo. It’s simple. Youth are more receptive to encouraging feedback and constructive criticism or direction from someone who already believes in them. Coaches create teams to win and once in the Hive at Girl Bee You, you become a part of our team of success. We believe in our girls before they even say their name or give the reason for their attendance. Our youth can see who is for them normally within the first 1-3 minutes of discussion.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would not do anything different regarding my overall journey, but I do wish I would have had a better understanding of financial health and loving myself first.  As with many things behaviors are learned and hard to break. Not having a solid background in financial wellbeing or self-love, I made a lot of monetary mistakes that if given the opportunity to have a do-over would have been handled differently. I added a financial education component in our workshops because a lot of do-overs are because of lack of money as well as a lack of resources.
