Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Carballo.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Mike. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
From a professional athlete to a professional money manager. Each of these careers seemed so different from the surface, but after digging through old muscles, looking for a clue, I realized they were so similar from a granular perspective. To succeed, it took an unwavering mindset, unbelievable amount of discipline and an incredible amount of yearning power.
Because it is not about your aptitude, but rather your attitude. In a world full of things outside our control, from how opponents will attack on the playing field to how financial markets behave, you can always control your attitude and effort levels of preparation. All things aside, I would not be standing where I am today without my loving family, friends, mentors and clients.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road was never smooth and probably never will be, but that is life right? The biggest struggle for me was reinventing myself after a long career in athletics and entering the world of finance, learning a new craft, talking a new language and hanging out with a new crowd. All of it was very unfamiliar.
Eventually and continually, I would transform. But as I got older and more successful, the struggle just did not end. It was always a constant battle. You are either getting better or getting worse. There was and still is constant tension, friction and release. Like a guitar, as beautiful as it sounds, it is still a matter of pulling the strings until they are screaming in struggle and then letting go to play the next musical note or move onto the next second, minute, hour or day in your life.
AAP Capital Advisory – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
It’s not about what I do, but rather what my team and I accomplish together and WHY we do it. As a brand and as a family, we understand trust is built in drops and lost in buckets. Every financial decision and every dollar counts. From business consulting and tax planning to insurance and wealth management, collectively we act as virtual CFO’s for individuals and business owners.
We all have specific roles and when we each execute our jobs, good things typically happen. We have taken a list of things we consider to be best practices and developed a systematic approach to financial wellness. I am the Investment Advisor on the team and specialize in portfolio allocation and financial planning advice. For a monthly subscription fee, my clients receive unlimited 1:1 guidance using interactive planning tools and personalized roadmaps to achieve their goals. Feel free to schedule a complimentary 15 minute phone call with my team to determine if we are a good fit, just click here for availability.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
To the surprise of many, the greatest achievement in my career was FAILING to reach my childhood dream of playing Major League Baseball, the pinnacle of professional baseball. Although I got drafted in 2013 by the Chicago White Sox, I never made it above the Minor Leagues. For the longest time, I attempted to reassemble who I was to see just who I might have been; only to be chasing the tail of dogma. I was really good and determined to make it, ultimately coming up a little short. But if you are TRULY really good, your greatest failure is the beginning of the greatest thing in your life. And that thing for me was financial advisory, where I could improve the overall efficacy of financial futures for decades to come.
