Meet Melanye Shinhoster of TeamShin Enterprises

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melanye Shinhoster.

Melanye Shinhoster is one half of a dynamic duo-owned company, TeamShin Enterprises. This Georgia native received the entrepreneur bug as a five-year-old while helping her dad, John “Happy Day” Haywood, create a pen sketched logo for his Atlanta based landscaping company. Almost simultaneously, she inherited the gift of interior decorating from her mother, Dr. Lucille E. Collins, who loved to decorate as a hobby. As a matter of fact, she and her mother planned to start a business together upon Dr. Collins’ retirement from Miami Dade County Public Schools. Unfortunately, Dr. Collins was stricken with ALS and it became Melanye’s mission to launch the business so her mother could see her dream come to fruition prior to her death in 2014. Melanye also credits meeting like-hearted partner and husband, Johnathan Shinhoster, with giving her the courage to pursue that entrepreneurship dream. Together, they built and own TeamShin Enterprises through which they aspire to empower black excellence as well as help families embrace talents and imperfections, and lean on one another to build up the black community.

As an approved vendor of Super Bowl LIV 2020, ShinChíc Décor, a subdivision of TeamShin Enterprises, was contracted to decorate the Business Connect Diversity & Inclusion Workshop Series in Miramar as well as the NFL Alumni Experience Event during Superbowl weekend this year. ShinChíc Décor also decorates the Broward County Office of Economic and Small Business Development’s Florida International Trade Cultural Expo (FITCE) annually.

Her pastime activities and business hours blur the lines of work and play. Melanye, aka MelShin genuinely enjoys doing exactly what she does for work, hanging out with and having “meeting of the mind” conversations with family and friends about issues that impact the African American community. This was the inspiration behind her podcast, Gurl What?! w/Melanye on iHeart Radio. She enjoys her job as an educator and connecting with young children daily, one of which is the special moments she shares with her eight year old niece, Riley, aka “Pop Pop.” She also enjoys concert hopping and traveling with her husband.

Mrs. Shinhoster is a member of the Real Estate Staging Association (RESA) Broward Chapter, the Broward Black Chamber of Commerce, ColorComm and a Charter Member of the Miramar chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She is also the creator of the Facebook Group Black Women who Loves Indoor Living Spaces, a support system for thousands of creative black women and families in quarantine with a need to update their surroundings.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Early in my transition into entrepreneurship, I sought advice from business professionals. They all encouraged us to narrow our scope of services. We didn’t agree. Instead, we chose to give ourselves permission to stay true to the mission and brand, and now we are seeing our vision manifest.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with TeamShin Enterprises – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
TeamShin Enterprises mission is “Empowering Passion, Purpose and People.” The company is a collaborative of creative products, including ShinChíc Décor, iHeart Radio’s Gurl What?! with Melanye Podcast, TeamShin Enterprises T-Shirt Boutique featuring positive message tees and WOLO Party Rental and Services. Her partner and husband Johnathan is also a recording artist under the moniker J-Shin. The ultimate goal is to create a company that inspires others to follow and pursue the God-given PURPOSE that will ultimately lead them to life balance, pure joy and intentional fulfillment.

If you had to start over, what would you have done differently?
I would change absolutely nothing. God orders my steps and I feel every aspect of my life from birth to now demonstrates that. I was raised by an educator, graduated with advanced degrees in communications and business, and worked in executive positions in the accounting/finance field for local nonprofits and a Fortune 500 company. There have been challenges, but all of it makes me what I am today: an entrepreneur and mogul in the making. I’m living my purpose.
