Meet Martin Tardy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Martin Tardy.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I was born 1992 in Vienna/Austria and grew up in France until I became 13. Then I moved back to Vienna. I’m drawing since I’m 3 years old and for the last 13 years I established my own style: drawing in one continuous line with one or two hands. I’m self-taught and since I was a kid I knew that what I will do for living is based on my creativity. But I never expected that the thing I always did for me (drawing) is so new and interesting for the art world.

The last view month where unbelievable. I started to post my works on my Instagram account with just 300 followers. The feedback was so positive that it motivated me to have my first solo exhibition – it was a lot of work but it was a total success. Artcolletion “sammlung sanziany” bought 3 of my works. One of my videos on Instagram is showing me while I draw asynchronous with both of my hands and it went viral. Till this day over 30.000.000 people watched it, this special piece is also part of an amazing auction on June 28 at the Vienna Dorotheum.
I have over 120.000 followers on Instagram generated in 6 month and many of my artworks were bought by art collectors.

Please tell us about your art.
My style for 13 years is to draw in one continuous line with one or two hands. The Subjects of my works are faces bodies or body parts. The human body fascinated me since I was a little kid. I always loved its aesthetic and this is why I studied a lot of anatomy books, The continuous line in my art works (drawings and also sculptures) symbolize the way of life! Imagine the line with all of its twists and curves as a metaphor for the decision and the many different occasions you take or don’t. All of these forms your character and build your personality. Like in my drawings, no matter how small a decision seems to be it leads you to another result/future. I hope people realize that it’s not always about the big decisions but also the small ones.

As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
I never tried to be successful with my art. I think success “finds” you if you make the things you love and work hard for it. In my state of mind its most important to stay who you are and don’t try to fit in something you don’t is the key to your own success.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
You can find my artworks on my Instagram profile to see my latest works and how I create them. My homepage is still under construction but you can also find some of my drawings there.
