Today we’d like to introduce you to Marquita Livingston.
Hi Marquita, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story began as a teen, wanting to have a voice for all the little girls who grew up without their mothers. I was once that little girl, and to escape my pain, I started writing poems. Poems turned into songs and songs turned into confidence. Confidence gave me the strength to believe in myself. For a long time, I thought that singing was my passion, my dream but I had no idea that my dreams would be so much bigger.
I stopped singing but continued writing. Writing was my escape from the pains of life. When I lost my grandmother in 2017 to cancer, that was the hurt that pushed me to speak not only to those little girls without a mom but to all who was going through something. I wanted to help the world! And so SamiraMarquita was born. The name coming from my grandmother.
SamiraMarquita is more than just a pretty logo, it represents “wearing the whole armor of God”. Knowing that he walks with us through all things. But “wearing the whole armor” is not just a clothing brand. It’s sharing my story through music, writing and clothing. Hoping that my story and my pain will help change people’s lives. Sharing my story through SamiraMarquita has helped me heal from the pain of losing so much but being grateful that I am still here today to help someone else.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
“Nothing comes easy” as they say. There has been many challenges trying to get to where I am today. From losing loved ones that helped shape my character to the biggest one being insecurities of not fitting in. Not fitting into what society thought I should look like or how I should act. With social media playing a major part in our world today, my greatest challenge was loving myself and knowing that I am worthy of love.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an entrepreneur and a writer. I have a few books that I am working on, along with my clothing brand that I just started. I specialize in writing. People know me for my writing and words of encouragement. My peers would tell you that I am the person they call if they are looking for a realist. I am most proud of starting my business. What sets me apart from others is that my brain never sleeps. I am constantly thinking ahead even when I am sleeping, I am dreaming of what to do the next day or the next year. Another thing that sets me apart from others is that I am humble, always willing to learn, take criticism and very giving.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe that life can be what you make it. You can make your karma good or bad depending on how you treat people. I think that because I treat people with respect, honesty and love, I have been dealt good karma. I have so many people that are willing to help and support my business goals like this interview, thanks to my cousin not because I am lucky but because I choose to love others.
