Today we’d like to introduce you to Marijana Camovic.
Marijana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Once Upon A Time… Well, it was not that long time ago. I entered the global business environment when I got the opportunity to work for Spanish and Irish NGOs in Montenegro, Southern Europe – where I am originally from. That’s where my journey begins. Working for the NGOs, I developed my interests and skills for the corporate world. I soon decided to make a significant change by moving to a more prominent, globally recognized consulting firm.
Not only did I have to leave my home country in order to experience working in a large-scale business environment, but I also became a resident of four different countries during my tenure with them. I lived in Serbia, Russia, The Bahamas, and finally, the USA. While I was based in these countries and working for the consulting firm, I traveled to many other places for work like Mongolia, Europe, the Caribbean islands, Asia, etc. In total, I have been fortunate enough to travel to 68 different countries.
Because of its small size, Southeastern Europe does not have the same diversity that one has come to expect from other cosmopolitan cities, so while traveling the world, to fully appreciate my surroundings, I always kept my eyes open a little wider than most. Along the way, I admired diverse cultures, different food flavors, smells, architecture, and customs, but something that really caught my interest was the fashion, the style, the combinations and designs, how people wore it, the energy and attitude they had in those articles of clothing that they wore every day. I developed a passion for observing all of the different fashion trends from across the world. It is so unique how people perceive fashion and what they consider appropriate attire across the globe. In Peru (one of my favorite countries), they still wear much traditional clothing enriched with modern flavors. Tibetan costumes can be made of brocade, silk, satin, commonly of wool and cotton. Then you can go to Japan, London, Paris, Milan, Seoul and there, you notice a particular way of dressing that is also unique. The colors of India and the costumes of Carnival in Trinidad are simply unforgettable.
It is not a surprise that many luxury designers look for their inspiration in traditional clothing, and I can now recognize it. What I actually see are the fine lines of Japanese costume in simple forms of business and trendy attires by Prada and also colorful Peru and Sistine Chapel windows when I see some of the collections by Dolce & Gabbana and Cavalli, for example. All these experiences were extraordinary and changed me and my perspective on fashion, which is something that is so important to so many people across the globe.
During my odyssey, I have found love! The most wonderful and supportive man has entered my life, and two years ago, we were blessed with Theo, a vigorous little golden hair boy that inspires me every day in that many ways that only a mother can understand. Our children grow so fast, and along the way, I want to make sure to be a part of my child’s confidence, attitude, and creativity and teach him about all the places I went to by dressing him in colors of Peru, fabrics of Tibet, styles of Italy, looks of London and boldness of Japan. I need to ensure that in whatever I am doing, I create and manage not only my future but also our children’s future. Our future should have the common goal of sharing our life experiences. This is how the idea of Hera and Hermes came to life.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Just like life in general, every career has its ups and downs. When work is such a large part of your life, the emotional ups and downs go hand in hand. One of the most challenging times was moving to all these countries on my own. I was always stepping outside of my comfort zone. That is never easy, especially when you transition your entire life to different countries, different systems, different cultural attitudes, and environments. I am proud of how I integrated myself into extremely diverse cultures and languages.
However, one of those “moves” ultimately proved to be for the best. How do I know that? Here I am, in beautifully diverse Miami, with a man who supports me and encourages me to chase this H + H dream while spending the best time of our lives with our son.
When our children inspire us, nothing can stop us. Working in a large corporation was invigorating, educational, structured, and fruitful, and it prepared me to offer something that Miami definitely needs. We want to provide an adventurous sail around the world experience with our kids, dressed in clothing from the most magical wardrobe in the universe.
Please tell us about Hera and Hermes | Kids Fashion Store.
After so many years in the corporate world, I realized that now I have the opportunity in life to make some real changes. I decided to take all I have – my work ethic, corporate experience, and my passion for fashion mixed with my travels from around the world and channel that passion into H+H. Using connections and teachings that I have acquired through the years and combining that into a new endeavor, we decided to call it Hera + Hermes | Kids Fashion Store. Internally we call it “Your Magic Sailing Wardrobe” because this fashion can take you anywhere you want it to.
Our name is inspired by Greek Mythology, Hera, because she was the Goddess of Marriage and Childbirth and Hermes, diversely, the Gods’ messenger with the wings attached to his hat and sandals.
H + H is an online store, more of a boutique, specializing in fashionable, best quality attire for babies and young children. We offer clothing that has a story behind every shirt, dress, or pair of shoes.
We understand that the fashionable selections for young children and babies are limited, and we want to change that. We know that the apparel industry does not pay as much attention to infants’ demographic to 5-year-old children. So, we have decided to make our way across the seven seas to find the best and the brightest fashion for our young customers. We are prepared to deliver this fabulous and beautiful fashion and make it available to every child and parent who wants to experience it.
As our headquarter is based in Miami, our Miami neighbors have the luxury of same-day free delivery, and we offer free shipping in the entire USA! Our exclusive selection of the best brands is what sets us apart from all the others in this market. The concept of giving and sharing is something we genuinely believe in, so we have a program in place where the percentage of each sale is going to charities that support the little ones.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Not much. We did our homework; our passion is strong, so the only thing we would do differently is to start this journey much earlier in life. The clothing that we sell reflects the joy, love, and happiness that our children bring to our lives! As we recently found ourselves in a virtual society, we will bring the best shopping experience to you. Come and get to know us at www.heraandhermes.com. We will be honored to be a part of your adventure.
Thank you for taking the time to know us, and we wish all of you a Magical Holiday Season ahead!
