Meet Maria M. Ruiz of Dark Rabbit Society

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria M. Ruiz.

Hi Maria, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Dark Rabbit Society originated as a natural counterpart to my first brand CHIBILOULOU. While CHIBILOULOU is light and optimistic, Dark Rabbit Society embraces our dark side – which I believe is just as important. It became unrealistic for me to only focus on positivity. I wanted/needed to tap into the sarcasm, the dark humor, and the thoughts that we often think but don’t say. Then I thought to myself that if I had this urge, perhaps others do as well.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’d say a challenge early on was figuring out how to create an environmentally sustainable brand. I knew the brand being eco-friendly was non-negotiable, so I spent countless hours planning and researching. While I’m still learning, I can proudly say that all cards, envelopes, inserts, and stickers are printed locally on 100% recycled paper, without sacrificing any of the quality. The t-shirts are made with eco-friendly dyes and mailed in a 100% compostable mailer. As I like to say, Dark Rabbit Society isn’t so friendly to humans, but it is friendly to the environment.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Dark Rabbit Society greeting cards are original, witty, and dark-humored and can be given on occasions such as: new baby, birthday, wedding and engagement, social anxiety, and “twisted sympathy”. You have to appreciate a certain type of humor to give – and receive – the cards. The website says it best: “We take care of the outside, but the inside’s up to you.” Meaning the cards are purposely blank inside so you can salvage your friendship. Kidding! Sort of. You can also wear your darkness on your sleeve… literally. Dark Rabbit Society t-shirts recently launched in three earth tones and have been a hit! The tees are soft, unisex, and ideal for every day lounging.

Any big plans?
I’m looking forward to growing the #IAmDarkRabbitSociety movement into a community where you can unapologetically embrace your dark side. And I definitely want to add more apparel. I have many original quotes that I want to place on t-shirts and one day: sweatshirts.
